One of the representative people of our culture today is Tudor Nedelcea from Craiova. He published a lot of books which proves his attachment to the values of the Romanian Orthodox Church, books that very carefully and methodically radiograph all those areas of interference, where the culture had a say in or through the Church, from those old printing presses in monasteries to the present day initiatives of the written and spoken culture. The article analyzes the work of the professor from Craiova, with detailed references to the book “Church and Society”.

„Notre-Dame este a Franţei, Franţa nu mai este a ei”

The article comments on some recent events that took place within the Catholic Church of France, culminating in the fire of Notre Dame Cathedral, attempting to outline some teachings from it. Anyone who knows the “dreamlike” Paris from books or from hearsay knows that Notre-Dame, its emblematic cathedral, is located on an island. France is no longer gathered around that island, but has become an archipelago. The French Church is in pain, but French multiculturalism is not too well, either... Behind some people’s refusal to mourn the disaster of Notre Dame hides the inability of French society to assimilate people of foreign origin, immigrants ...France is incapable of federate the whole population around a common cause and express a single national homage, and this tells a lot about the identity drift that has transformed the country into a conglomerate of completely divergent or even antagonist visions and identities. Monseigneur Michel Aupetit, the archbishop of Paris, sees the fi re of Notre Dame as a call to “convert our hearts.”

Analiza conexiunilor dintre drept și morală, între tradiție și actualitate

This paper analyses the concepts of three great Romanian thinkers, theoreticians and philosophers of law – A.D. Xenopol, M. Djuvara și E. Speranția – on the relations between law, morals and manners, in order to discover the differences in method and substance between them, to identify the practical implication in the field of performing justice and law-making. Being trained and positioned in the core of the European juridical culture of their time, they reviewed the relations between law and morals, in a rationalist and humanist way, substantiating the need for the law to follow morals, having a historical and at the same time practical view of ethical principles, as well as law-making. Thus, they leave room to the expression of basic human rights and freedoms in a democratic judicial order, while the rules of law subordinating morals and manner proved to be widely open to totalitarianism.

Spiritul satului românesc – factor al identităţii naţionale

The article is dedicated to the Romanian village – „Centre of the Universe”, seen from the perspective of childhood, lived in compliance with the canons and unwritten laws of the village, highlighting the important role of the family, school, church and society in upbringing and child rearing. The village is seen as a geographic, psychological and social unit, with people living in close communion. The Third Millennium Society brings about major changes and transformations in the Romanian village, leading to a crisis both in practical and spiritual terms. In the context of EU integration, the Romanian village represents the national identity factor by preserving the customs and traditions, the song, the garments, and the popular dance etc, demonstrating the still living creative spirit of the nation that lives in this „Centre of the Universe” which is the Romania village.

The author of this study, based on a profound analysis of Vasile Goldiş’s socio political and philosophic works and practical activities as a political leader, deputy and minister, outlines the moral and spiritual profile of the personality of the great Romanian scholar and patriot, one of the Masterminds of the Great Union of December 1, 1918. Shaped in a sacerdo tal environment, receiving a Christian education, Vasile Goldiş’s personality was focused on faith and the Christic love of peo ple, nations and humanity at large. All attitudes, decisions and actions undertaken by the Transylvanian politician, teacher and man of culture were inspired from the principles of Christian morals. In this context, Goldiş brought his contribution to the development of political and administrative ethics, the ethics of international relations, didactical ethics and clerical hierarchy, to the creation of the new moral order in Europe, so that, through the moral and spiritual profile of his personality, he pertains to the apostolic or heroic typology.

Chișinău – note de călătorie

I have carried out a three-day travel to Chişinău, the capital of the Republic of Moldova, former historical province of Romania, called Bessarabia at that time. The aim of this enterprise was the participation in the fourth Grand National Assembly dedicated again to the unification of Bessarabia with Romania. A slight but promising change of mentality has occurred in the mentality of the Romanian locals in this respect in the last two decades and most importantly including the young generation.
