Accreditation is a process for ensuring and guaranteeing the quality of higher education services and activities, where institutions and the offered education programs are evaluated by an external organization - national or international – in order to comply with established standards. In Bulgaria this activity is carried out by the National Evaluation and Accreditation Agency (NEAA) on the basis of common standards and criteria for all higher schools. This article examines the peculiarities of the economic faculties accreditation at universities and the specialized business higher education institutions, taking into account their specifics, by partially developing and building on NEAA‘s criteria system over key issues, in view of a more effective and practical study of the structure, quality and organization of the activities in these schools.

One of the goals of the International project “Methodology and Information Technologies in Education (MITE)” is to create conditions for identification and support of young talents. A proven effective form of activity is the International Competition “Mathematics and projecting”, which is quite popular in Bulgaria, Kazakhstan and Russia. In 2016 the competition celebrated its 10-th anniversary. This year for the first time the competition program included the nomination “Network Research Projects”. The project “Geometry Scrabble in Cloud” was awarded first prize in this nomination. It was prepared by an international group of students from the three countries: Bulgaria, Kazakhstan and Russia. The present paper summarizes the students’ work and presents the organizational methodology of the communication during the preparation of the project.

The article presents the current development of the Bulgarian language and reveils some negative phenomena in its use. There is a comprehensive program to curb these phenomena, which includes the activity of linguists, teachers, the public and media. The role of institutions such as the Institute for Bulgarian Language and the Ministry of Education and Science in the process of enhancing the linguistic culture and language competence of all Bulgarians is emphasized.

The confrontation of common sense and the complex deductive schemes of scientific knowledge often plays a retaining role, and creates in linguistics some methodological obstacles for understanding the essence of linguistic substance and its form. On the other hand, such confrontation stimulates all a priori created abstract models of the overall architectonics of the linguistic levels and provides conditions for the emergence of new ideas and methods in linguistics, thus paradoxically becoming a guarantor of the progressive movement towards constant refinement of the research methods

The main theme of this article centers on the international contests in Informatics. The article details the key events preceding the initiation and organization of the First International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), held in Bulgaria in 1989, and provides supporting documentation. The path, leading to this Olympiad and the events between the First National Olympiad in Informatics (NOI) and the First IOI are discussed as well. An outline of the international contests in informatics held in Sofia (1987), Bratislava (1987), Varna (1988), and Nova Gorica (1988) is offered. In the beginning of 1989, in Netherlands, UNESCO held a consultative meeting to discuss various issues related to international Olympiads. The invited participants were the leaders of the well-established International Olympiads in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. The author was invited to introduce the Olympiads in Informatics and to present the plan for the organization and inauguration of the First IOI in Bulgaria. Next the paper discusses the progress of our talented students, winners of the Bulgarian NOIs. Subsequently, a few, as university students, participated in the world’s most reputable completion - the ACM International Collegiate Contest (ACM ICPC). There is a brief presentation of the student team from Sofia University “St. Kl. Ohridski”, which participated in this contest in 1996 and placed first in Europe and fourth overall, among the 1001 teams from universities around the world. Due to its factual nature, the article contains an extensive list of references, including text excerpts, citations, photos, and other relevant materials, supporting the historical facts related to the competitions in Informatics.

Teachers need to develop and improve their knowledge to be in favor of the newest methods and ways of teaching. They also need to share their practices both in personal and professional way. This opportunity was given by a new educational forum – a National Conference “Thematic and Value models in Education and Philosophy Teaching”. The event was held in South West University “Neofit Rilski”, Blagoevgrad on May, 10th – 11th, 2019. The organizers of the event were the Faculty of Philosophy from the South-West University and Regional Department of Education in Blagoevgrad. The conference aimed at enriching knowledge of teachers in both schools and universities, as well as giving opportunities for sharing good practices and finding innovative and common solutions of current issues in teaching and learning Philosophy. This was the second conference of the kind and it attracted more participants. There were different sessions in two days based on the humanity in Philosophy, new educational standards, civic education as a new school subject, innovative and modern methods of teaching and how to put films and video materials into practice in teaching. The second day of the conference aimed at new understanding about reason. There were valuable discussion about Religion as a school subject and an interesting article on Axiotopics. The final discussion pointed at the importance of such events finding common ways to deal with problems and presenting innovative methods and achievements which is a challenge for the new forum next year.
