The local government entities have an excellent capability to build a spatial, ecological, social, and infrastructural policy as well as the policy of information management for a definite area. They all create beneficial conditions for local development or, on the contrary, they may restrict them.. Thanks to their cooperation with the central government administration authority in the matter of the civil aviation, they have a possibility to create an acceptable level of its safety, whereas an entrepreneur using the tools created by the two above entities influences its maintenance and can disturb it, which can lead to instability of an established safety level. Since the local government entities have a direct and indirect impact on the local development, a hypothesis has been created that the public administration entities in cooperation with the central government administration authority in the matter of civil aviation together with the entrepreneur create and maintain the safety in the area of airport.

Social media-based visual humour use in tourism marketing:

Tourism firms using visual social media marketing are struggling with its implementation, specifically in formulating engagement-based visual message strategies. Yet, creating such appealing posts can lead to positive brand and financial outcomes. Humour has been identified as a potent tool for social media communication, given its capability to develop social interactions. Yet, how humour works on social media is not well understood – specifically its visual form. Treating humour as a symbolic resource, this study adopted a compound content analysis-semiotic analysis to identify visual content and its symbolic meaning embedded in destination marketing organization (DMO)’s social media posts. 200 Sina Weibo posts containing humour images initiated by 5 Chinese provincial DMOs were collected. The results show 6 types of humour content and 6 types of symbolic meaning – none of which are product-related. This study advances the tourism literature and humour theory, and offers tourism firms a holistic view of how to fully leverage social media-based visual humour to achieve consumer reach and engagement.

“America First, the Netherlands Second” on YouTube:

This study attempts to provide initial tentative insights into the audience reception of intertwining political satire and destination marketing imagery by analysing the “America First, the Netherlands Second” video and a student sample audience response. In 2017, a series of YouTube videos named “America First” went viral. The video that started the viral phenomenon was “America First, the Netherlands Second”, responding in a satirical manner to the “America First” message of the inaugural speech of U.S. president Donald J. Trump. They achieved extreme popularity both in number of views and number of new memetic videos with similar satirical messages. These videos were a form of political expression and at first sight did not seem to have much in common with communication in tourism. However, the videos included typical destination marketing imagery, intertwined with satirical representations, thus representing a humorous “spoof” on destination marketing. The study analyses participants’ memory recall, eye-tracking movements and focus group responses in order to provide initial conclusions on how audiences respond to the intertwining of satirical political expression and destination marketing imagery.

Where is the humour in tourism promotion?

This paper discusses humour and tourism, with a focus on “Spain Marks”, an internationalcampaign used to promote Spain as a tourism destination. The importance of this relationshipsuggests that the use of humour in marketing works as an engagement and loyalty strategy, aswell as to portray the uniqueness of a destination. The “Spain Marks” campaign wasinnovative in its use of humour because it offered a fresh and contemporary image of Spain asa tourism destination. This campaign has been specially selected for its exceptional ironiccharacter. The study aims to understand the humour appreciation of this specificadvertisement using an online survey that was completed by 40 participants. The resultsindicate that the use of humour is a difficult task because what is perceived as fun, attractiveand ironic in any tourism campaign is highly subjective.

Assessing humour use in accommodation establishments:

This paper contributes to a relatively under-researched area of humour studies in hospitality by analysing the use of different forms of humour in accommodation establishments. The main purpose of the study was to gain a better understanding of how humour is used in marketing communication and service processes, and the ways in which it contributes to the guest experience. A range of research methods were used including desktop research on how humour is currently used in accommodation settings, a focus group consisting of international participants, and two online surveys with both accommodation providers and accommodation guests. The latter was undertaken in Estonia. The results indicate that multiple forms of humour are used in accommodation establishments to provide information and enhance the guest experience, however, it was also clear that many humorous events happen spontaneously rather than being planned for or ‘staged’. This study also proposes a decision support model to guide accommodation establishments in how humour could be applied more effectively in their marketing communication and service processes.

Developing the humour repertoire concept to guide future tourism-humour research

The central interest in this study is to develop and position the humour repertoire concept fortourism and leisure research. The term humour repertoire encompasses the totality of aperson’s abilities and skills to both appreciate and produce humour. Such skills include theindividual’s ability to tell/retell humorous (travel) stories, jokes from their life and travels, andthe ability to see travel and leisure situations as amusing. A framework outlining the role ofthe humour repertoire is presented and an online empirical study is reported to addressselected components of the conceptual scheme. The results show a weak association betweenhumour appreciation and production, indicating that researchers examining humour intourism need to be careful in building generic implications from selected work. Attention isthen given to the multiple social and contextual factors beyond the individual level that need tobe considered when assessing humour in diverse tourism contexts. Fresh research directionsare indicated by considering the richness of the repertoire framework and links to cognitiveschema research.

This study presents the possibilities for using different colour models for visual interpretation of satellite imagery. Using the RGB model to visualise different spectral bands as a false colour composite image make it possible for different types of objects and features on the Earth surface to be highlighted and easily discerned based on their specific colour. Examples are shown based on satellite imagery from several free sources, e.g. the USGS’s Earth Explorer, the ESA’s Copernicus Open Access Hub, etc.

The article is an attempt to answer the question whether the quality marks, generally perceived as very important for a given product, have an impact on safety issues in the water industry. It has been verified whether known and applied certification systems for harbors and marinas contain safety elements of the marina and its visitors, and if so, what is their level. T he article compares the most known certification systems for marinas around the world, paying special attention to safety issues – diagnosing their level from the point of view of those visiting in a given facility. Both the procedure of obtaining the certificate and the inclusion of the safety issue and the manner of displaying the certificate were analyzed. I n the course of the analysis of the data obtained and the presentation of applications, it has been proved that modern marina certification systems treat security issues seriously and at a high level, and the mere possession of a certificate positively affects the awareness of persons staying at a given facility.

THE E-TOURISM BEYOND COVID-19: A CALL FOR TECHNOLOGICAL TRANSFORMATION

The upsurge of Covid-19 changed lifestyles and hit almost every sector. The tourism sector is one of the most affected sectors due to social distancing, ban on crowding, restrictions to visit public places, and grounded airplanes. The study proposed a shift to e-tourism until the Covid-19 get fully curbed. Therefore, this study aims to focus on the tourist’s experiences in Thailand during the Covid-19 pandemic. The study provides insight with the support of literature to help practitioners and researchers to understand, manage, and improve the tourism industry and induce technological transformation to curb the impact of the outbreak. The paper proposes a way to turn Covid-19 into a transformational opportunity. The study used Smart PLS software for analysis and data was collected from the tourist who had intentions to visit Thailand and the ones already in Thailand. The study fills the gap of the call for a transformation of e-tourism and explains the impact of the pandemic on the industry. The study presents the theoretical and practical implications to promote the tourism industry and the transformation of the technology in the Covid-19 pandemic.

Separate waste collection and recycling are at the basis of today’s waste management. This helps the reduction of landfilled waste, which aims to reduce soil, water, and air pollution, on the one hand, and to cut down on the depletion of resources for new production, on the other. A large portion of household waste comes from the so-called “widespread waste”, which includes packaging waste. Legislation at European and national levels sets specific goals to overcome this problem. Separate waste collection is carried out by municipalities via waste recycling companies, which set up and operate systems for separate collection. Citizens are at the heart of the efficient functioning of these systems. A separate waste collection system of this kind has been established in the municipality of Stara Zagora in Bulgaria. The objective of this paper is to present the results of a questionnaire survey of the system’s users to establish their awareness and attitudes regarding the process of separate waste collection. The results can be used to improve the system.

THE CHALLENGING FACTORS AFFECTING WOMEN ENTREPRENEURIAL ACTIVITIES

The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors such as access to finance, legal constraints, and entrepreneurial skill on women's participation in business activities. The mediating effects of self-leadership were also established as an influence on women's participation in business activities. Moreover, the study examined the moderating effect of education among self-leadership and participation of women in entrepreneurial activities. The study selected a quantitative method and structured questionnaire for the data collection. The study found a significant relationship of the effect of access to finance, legal constraints, and entrepreneurial skill with women's participation in entrepreneurial activities. Moreover, the study found a significant mediating effect of self-leadership between factors and women's participation in entrepreneurial activities as well as a significant moderating effect of education between self-leadership and participation of women in entrepreneurial activities. The study suggests that the government and other institutions should take the initiative in women's entrepreneurship that affects women's self-leadership skills. The policymakers should pay attention to the financial concerns of women in business activities.

Some smart solutions towards rapid urbanization in Albanian cities

In the last two decades, Albania is going through the most dynamic economic, urban, and industrial transformations in its history. Economic opportunities in Albanian’s cities are fueling rural to urban migration on a massive scale. The resettlement is thought to be one of the largest sustained migrations the country has ever seen, involving the relocation of a lot people from rural to urban areas each year. For the last past decades, Albania transportation system was a combination of bicycles, mass transit, and walking. Today, with a growing fleet of privately owned vehicles and low density development, Albania’s is quickly becoming a car-dependent society. Meanwhile the growth of Albania’s economy has improved the living standarts, swelling city populations, increased housing floor area, and the trend toward automobile dependency, have contributed to a host of environmental, health, and security concerns. Urban air and water quality are deteriorating, and greenhouse gas emissions are increasing rapidly. Cars flood city roads, causing severe traffic congestion and jeopardizing community livability. How Albania’s cities can manage the massive influx of new residents in the next two decades will set the framework for growth over the next years and beyond. The current urbanization pattern of sprawling, auto-dependent development poses a threat to public health, quality of life, the economy, and national security, and also strains natural and social resources. Albania most probably can correct its inefficient use of resources and avoid environmental deterioration by pursuing a “smart growth” pathway, which offers an integrated approach to development. This paper aims to propose some smart strategies for the solutions towards a rapid urbanization of Albanian cities, mostly of the Tirana capital.

The text examines the COVID-19 Pandemic as an element of change that is already necessary for museums. It describes the study, its aims and objectives as carried out – its methodology and focuses on the need for the study and ways of reaching the audience. The work of museums in Bulgaria and the Balkans is presented, as well as the main contradictions in individual lockdowns. The activity on digital platforms and mainly on Facebook, where 100% of the studied museums are present, was examined. Models for working in a changed environment are indicated, which prove to be particularly important for the future of the museum in our country.

The hybrid staging of the Museum Exhibition Fair 2020 gave a clear signal that places of memory must and can adapt to the changed environment. Although slowly, the process of transformation began. The willingness of museums to join the Fair, to present themselves and their exhibitions with alternative, not well-known and not mastered mechanisms for working in the online space, is impressive. The search, testing and use of new and different communication channels is indicative of the perceived need for change to bring museums closer to their audiences and expand the circle of their audiences – initially virtual, and later with real visits. Museums are closing their doors, but as if for the first time in decades they are opening themselves wide, looking at themselves, studying and analyzing their behavior towards cultural heritage and users, trying to understand the expectations of their visitors and provoke their interest.

Among them, about 50% have a YouTube channel, but do not have much video content, and rarely use the Blog. Nevertheless, some of the museums have seen an increase in uploaded video products just during the Pandemic.

Туризмът в Пловдив през ХХ век: фактори, развитие, проблеми, политики, ресурси

This study is based on documents from Plovdiv State archive, newspapers, scientific researches, popular publications, handbooks, memories. The results are presented in synthesized variant. Until the second half of 30s the tourism in Plovdiv was accepted as outdoor excursions, especially in the mountains. The local tourist associations were branches of Bulgarian tourist association and Youth tourist union. The biggest achievement of Plovdiv tourists until the end of Second world war was the construction of hut “Zdravets”. The new status of Plovdiv Fair as international since 1937 initiated development of “economic tourism”. A Tourist committee was created by Plovdiv municipality and took measures for city advertisement and preservation of the cultural heritage. Unfortunately, the war ended these promising activities. Several years of economy transformations and postwar crises followed the coup d’état on 9 September 1944. The development of International fair and the preservation of cultural heritage, the main tourist resources, restarted at the end of 40s and especially in 50s. Other important area of investments was the near territory of Rhodopes. Different trade deficits and stock delivery problems accompanied the tourism during the communist regime. The termination of private entrepreneurship put a continuous trend of reduce or slow increase of tourist establishments. At the end of 1989, the beds in hotels were approximately 3000 but the Fair needed not less than 15000. The rest were supplemented by private accommodations – a paradox for socialist state and economy. Despite such disadvantages, Plovdiv was awarded with European gold medal for preservation of cultural heritage in 1979 and hosted three World EXPOs (1981, 1985, 1991). During the decade of democratic changes, last of the 20th century and this research, Plovdiv confirmed its importance as a center of cultural and event tourism. The International fair multiplied its exhibitions, the State hotels were privatized, the number of private tourist venues grew rapidly. Plovdiv municipality was the main contributing authority throughout the whole period.

The study covers the entire coast of the Black Sea basin, including the coastal strips of Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, the Crimean-peninsula, Russia, Georgia and Turkey (excluding Abkhazia, which is not recognized as a separate country). It is based on the processing and analysis of empirical material from 15 meteorological stations using to determine the summer temperature regime of the study area. The specific characteristics of the impact of the sea basin relation to the temperatures along the coast are revealed and follow the trend of their increase during this season is traced. The study is important not only for determining the local and regional climatic conditions and for the development of tourism, but also for the possible impact of the changing temperature regime on coastal ecosystems.
