THE BULGARIAN FOREIGN TOURIST MARKET: PARTIAL EQUILIBRIUM ANALYSIS WITH REER

The main objective of the paper “The Bulgarian Foreign Tourist Market: Partial Equilibrium Analysis With REER” is to evaluate an econometric equilibrium model for the Bulgarian foreign tourist industry. The main microeconomic assumptions of the model are the existence of identical consumers, identical composite tourist industry product and perfect market conditions. The REER is used as proxy for the composite product price and other proxies are introduced for foreign income and domestic tourist industry capacity. The data is deseasonalised on the basis of geometric mean approach and Hodrick-Prescott filter. The TSLS method of estimation is applied given the overindentified nature of the model. The estimation results are consistent with the core microeconomic theory. The estimated model allows for price equilibrium convergence. The dropping of the initial constraints allows for additional conclusions. The tourist industry can substantially gain from advertising, product diversification and lessened reliance on the summer income picks. The government, given the important macroeconomic role of the tourist industry under the CB regime and the potential tourist industry vulnerability, is strongly interested in implementing strategic measures guaranteeing sustainable tourist sector development.

The subject of this study is developing an information system for assisting the development and management of tourism in Goze Delchev district. This district of the study could be characterized by unique nature and resources, protected natural objects and territories, churches and monasteries, archeological objects, architecture and ethnographic landmarks, museums, social and demographic conditions. The main aim of the study is to develop a modern, reliable and flexible information system for management the development of ecological and country tourism in the region. Programme realization include develop a data base for collecting and saving highly varied information for possible tourism destination and develop multivariate offers for short time tourism in dependence of users requirements. The suggested work is universal and could be applied not only for Goze Delchev district but also for random region of Bulgarian territory.

DYNAMICS OF THE INVESTMENT PROCESS IN HOTEL AND RESTAURANT BUSINESS IN BULGARIA

Basic issue of the exploitation of the tourist sector of the economy of every country is increasing its competitiveness in the conditions of accelerating competition in the sector.The sphere of the tourism has a range of components, which are being developed in the only enterprises, but one of the most crucial is the investment activity on the economy entities therefore. The purpose of the present article is to explore and analyze the development of the investing process in the hotel and restaurant business in Bulgaria. In connection with this is made an analysis of statistical data for the period of 1995 to 2005 is made hereby. A research is made of the dynamics of the acquired material durable assets and the expenses for acquiring them in quality equivalent and the condition and the dynamics of the material base in the hotel and restaurant business in material equivalent. For the needs of the research are calculated such statistic characteristics, as an absolute growth and rate of growth and are determined the average rates of growthof the material durable assets in the hotel and restaurant business. The survey and the analysis of the dynamics of the investing procedure show that increasing the efficiency to using the resources for getting material durable assets in the hotel and steakhouse business is needed. For having a visionover the development of the material base, servicing carrying the tourists and helping, of greatest degree the development of the tourist branch, think for the sector of the public feeding to be watched formally correctly.

APPROACHES FOR BUILDING UP OF INTANGIBLE ASSETS IN BULGARIAN TOURISM INDUSTRY

Tourism companies in Bulgaria often stand in front of a need to improve their performances in comparison to their competitors. And the most widely used approach in this regard is the claim on uniqueness and unrepeatability. However, any country in the world, any tourism destination can claim upon the uniqueness of its natural and anthropogenic resources in one way or another. Therefore, just sticking to “unique resources” cannot guarantee, always and in sufficient scale, the true uniqueness and competitiveness needed by the hotel companies. Here, one possible solution comes in the face of the intangible assets management and the resulting control over the information flows in, within and out of the hotel businesses. The real tourism uniqueness and competitiveness do come as a result of the proper investments in the intangible assets, regarded as: (i) specific skills, knowledge and experience of each of the hotel’s employees (the human capital); (ii) written and incorporated knowledge in the working process and systems of the hotel (the structural capital); (iii) the abilities and skills of the hotel employees to cooperate and work together based on mutual trust (the social capital). And the process of the “organizational learning” can bring the level of the intangible assets (often also regarded as the company’s intellectual capital) to a stage, which can easily facilitate the reaching of the hotel companies’ strategic goals.

NATURA 2000 AS A MULTIPLYING FACTOR IN THE RECREATIONAL USAGE OF BULGARIA’S TOURISM RESOURCES

The European environmental network NATURA 2000 aims at the long-term preservation of the different types of natural habitats and populations of species, which are of European significance. A distinguishing feature of the Bulgarian flora, and of the modern and natural vegetation, is its endemicand relict character.Due to its middle and specific location in the West Palearctina of the Balkan Peninsula, Bulgaria possesses a particular interesting fauna. Taking into account all this biological diversity, one of the requirements, imposed to Bulgaria by the European Union in the process of its accession under Chapter 22 “Environment”, Sector “Preservation of Nature”, was the preparation up to the end of year 2006 of lists with Protected zones for establishing and sustaining within the country of a network of territories compliant in purpose and structure to the sites of the European environmental network NATURA 2000.

TOUR GUIDES-THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE DESTINATION AND ITS TOURISTS

Tour guides are one of the key participants in the tourism industry. Their knowledge in presenting the tourist attractions and the culture of a particular destination, their abilities in communication and servicing can turn a trip into a really exciting experience. The services offered become a major factor because of the fact that the different destinations are trying to attract more visitors in a highly competitive situation. This research examines the nature of tour guiding in Bulgaria, assessing the existing level of quality and identifies the problems and challenges that this profession faces in the 21stcentury. These problems are being examined through series of in-deep interviews and interviews with focus-groups. In accordance with the results obtained, some recommendations were formulated. The most important one is related to the introduction of a control system to assure and guarantee the high quality of servicing. The problems experienced by tour guiding in Bulgaria are not specific and such or similar problems could be encountered in many other countries. Nevertheless, little information could be found in articles and publications. This research is an attempt to gather more information about these issues that is to be analyzed in order to ameliorate the quality of the overall process of tour guiding.

They offer opportunities for rest and recovering in environment which is absolutely opposite to the one in their urban and industrial centers. Population prefers most the development of tourism in the territory of rural regions for diversification of economic activities. In most cases the right definition of rural regions defines their opportunity to develop alternative tourism on their territory. The report shows the evolution of understandings for rural regions in EU and in Bulgaria. It emphasizes some differences which have an effect on the opportunities for development of alternative tourism.
