This essay deals with poetic representations of death in the Hispanic-American modernist poetry. Firstly, it introduces basic characteristics of the poetics of the above mentioned esthetic movement and then it focuses on the analysis of some of the poems of the modernist poets coming from various Hispanic-American countries. It attempts to find the divergent and convergent points regarding the treatment of the theme – these points range from an optimistic vision of beauty to the pessimism of the “fin de siècle”, and also submit a humoristic vision of the theme.

The text is about the Czech translation of Vladimir Martinovski’s works, published by Slavomira Ribarova in Brno between 2011–2013. He is a renowned poet and musician coming from the younger generation of Macedonian poets. Martinovski participated in the international residential programme “Journey Across Europe-Remeasuring Cultural Space”, 2010–2011, which was coordinated by the publishing house “Windmills” (Větrné Mlýny) in the Czech Republic. The same house has later introduced the full paper edition of Martinovski’s “Quartets”, intended for reading, watching, singing and listening, to the Czech audiences and poetry scene. Ribarova‘s translations are carefully crafted in a correct and precise manner.

Ever since mythical days identity has been designed through the “Other one” prism, and consequently, these Dorovski couple verses, show the phenomena of their personal identity as well as the possibility of its double poetic consideration both in their own language, and in the language of the „Other one”. Hence the 17 poems of Dagmar Dorovska and the 16 poems of Ivan Dorovski have both a Czech and a Macedonian version, and thus become available / readable for both the Macedonian and the Czech reader. The 33 poems from “The town, the Water, the People” represent a poetic picture of their deepest insights, confessions never told to their very end, confessions wanted to be uttered but not, sometimes simply because it was not the right time, pictures that draw a possible first person plural selfportrait, creating a hyperbolic „WE” through the strong power of the dichotomy nature – culture.

The article describes the key features of the individual style of A. A. Akhmatova, in particular, considers the originality of the portrait details in lyric poetry. Portrait detail is used primarily as a means of creating an image and at the same time as the mode of transmission of the conflict, it "replaces" the plot, the author compensates for a given ambiguity. Autobiographical, confessional style of Anna Akhmatova the dominating characteristic of a selfportrait in her poetry. Using portrait detail, clothing detail that accompanies the heroine, the poet shows not only the feeling in the climax, but also how the feeling in turn is reflected in the lyrical portrait of the heroine.

Od „Spavača pod kamenom“ do „Kamenog spavača“ Maka Dizdara: o povijesti knjige i arheologiji teksta

The paper offers an insight into some preliminary results of a more general literary-historical and textological research of Mak Dizdar’s manuscript heritage, first of all the poetry collection Stone sleeper, the most important author’s book and one of the most important books of Bosniak and Bosnian-Herzegovinian literature in general. Special attention is given to some key issues of history of the text of the Stone sleeper in the context of the author’s manuscript collection as well as to the modes of its textological historical-critical reading. Along with opening of new research perspectives, some key foundations for the preparation of a critical edition of Dizdar’s most important poetry book are laid in this way.

This paper tries to present Pietism as a current and set of ideas linked to the Enlightenment, as a culture focused on individualism and “subjectification”, as well as on the need to dismantle the old authorities and hierarchies. Such a way of thinking is visible in the religious poetry at that time, with the Danish pastor Hans Adolph Brorson. His main work The Rare Jewel of the Faith (Troens rare Klenodie, 1739), a collection of hymns used in the Danish and Norwegian church till today, belongs to the canon of the Danish literature.

The paper attempts to present Adam Mickiewicz’s idea behind the ‘Lutheran spirit’ against a background of the vicissitudes of producing Poezje (Poetry), vol. 8 (1836). The author of the article ponders why the poet returns to the Lutheran mentality based on the need for forging an individual bond with God outside church. Consequently, the author’s interest revolves around Mickiewicz’s project of spirituality, created in the eight volume of the Paris edition, which goes beyond Catholicism and blurs the boundaries between Christian denominations.

The poems by Julia Hartwig, Schütz’s Cantata from the volume Obcowanie (1987) and Bach’s Cantata from Czułość (1992), constitute a poetic record of the reception of ancient musical works (which are gaining more and more popularity in modern times). The poet is interested in cantatas by Schütz i Bach — religious works of art of two baroque composers from 17th and 18th century, whose artistic activity was strictly connected with Lutheran spirituality and liturgy. For the poet these cantatas are not only the source of aesthetic experience. Its reception (most probably from the radio, recordings or concerts) becomes a great inspiration for existential and religious reflections. It also makes the poet recognise their uniqueness: as being examples of theocentric art and deep religiousness of their composers, these cantatas reveal the ability to harmonise the human psyche, and consequently they seem to be a perfect art form.

Apokalipsa i wojna secesyjna w poezji religijnych pieśni niewolniczych

Due to the horrors and evils of slavery blacks firmly believed in God’s promise of retribution against the wickedness and cruelty of those slaveholders who brutalized them. The Apocalypse exerted a powerful influence on slaves and was viewed as the Bible’s main argument that God denounced slavery and would come in a catastrophic event to judge those who mistreated blacks. The language of cosmic struggle between good and evil was vividly embraced by the poets of slave spirituals and themes of the end of time pervaded the texts of many songs. Slave spirituals reflect Apocalyptic thinking among blacks who viewed themselves as brave soldiers fighting on the side of Christ in the coming war of Armageddon. The paper explores how blacks perceived themselves as valiant soldiers fighting in the army of the Lord of the Apocalypse. We will see that slaves alluded to the belief in the inevitability of the military struggle over slavery and thus anticipated the Civil War.

The aim of this research is to expose Wiktor Voroshilsky’s translation strategy, especially the translation methods and techniques he uses as the author of the Polish versions of Russian poems. Theorists of translation quite often pay attention to the problem of translation of proper names, exploring different contexts related to this issue. Bazyli Tichoniuk wrote about the translation of names within Polish and Russian at the time, while for other languages we can mention works by Ewa Teodorowicz-Hellman, Anna Szcześniak, Elżbieta Skibińska, Anna Majkiewicz, and Krzysztof Hejwowski. This article attempts to indicate a specific translator’s approach to translating proper names. The material under study consists of 25 poems selected from 211 works translated by Voroshilsky. The main selection criterion was the saturation of the poem with elements of interest to the authors, as well as their diversity. This determined the research method, which focused on analysing the repeatability and variety of translation techniques. Finally, we concluded that Voroshilsky employed different methods of translation, often guided by the function performed by the proper names in the text. We also paid attention to his objective to bring the text closer to the target audience and on the creativity of the translator.

Концепт Россия в «Мертвых Душах» Гоголя

The article presents an analysis of the concept of “Russia” in Nikolai Gogol’s poem “Dead Souls”. The subject of linguistic analysis was 118 text fragments (simple and complex sentences), including the nouns “Russia” and “Rus” and the adjective “Russian”, which were examined from the point of view of the information about Russia contained in them. To analyse the language material, a facet technique was used, which made it possible to present the content of the concept of Russia at several levels: 1) categories of characteristics (facets); 2) characteristics of two types: organic (intrinsic) and axiological, while the article describes in detail the most frequent categories and characteristics. The study was carried out within the framework of linguistic culturalism and is based on the theory of functional semantics, in particular, on such areas as conceptology and imagology.1

O wierszu Gabriela Dierżawina poświęconym carowi Aleksandrowi I

The subject of the article is a work of the famous poet of the turn of the 18th century, Gabriel Derzhavin. The work is dedicated to the favourite grandson of Catherine II, Alexander I. The poem is part of the so-called Felician cycle and is closely related to the moral and didactic fable, About “Tsarevich Khlor”, dedicated to Alexander I. Derzhavin’s poem does not only refer to the fairy-tale staffage but also shows a close relationship with the political and social reality of the time. The article also discusses the artistic value of this work, its content, and form.

NOMEN EST OMEN: FUNKCIJE VLASTITIH IMENA I TOPONIMA U SARAJLIĆEVOJ POEZIJI

Iako se može reći da nema sustavnog istraživanja Sarajlićevog stila, književni kritičari uočili su karakteristične stilske postupke u poeziji ovoga pjesnika (npr. Martinović 1984/85, Vučković 1998). U opće stilske odrednice tako spadaju specifična ritmičnost i melodičnost stiha, uvjetovana različitim postupcima poetske sintakse, zatim elegičnost, sentimentalnost, odnosno pojačana emotivnost; ovome se može dodati i svojevrsna retoričnost, te narativnost koja, paradoksalno, ne dokida liričnost stihova. Svakako ne treba zaboraviti ni duhovitost, ponekad i aforističnost, te sklonost ka završetku pjesme u nagloj i snažnoj poanti. Na planu stilskih figura frekventne su figure ponavljanja – anafora, anadiploza, te općenito paralelizmi, što sve dolazi u funkciji stvaranja prepoznatljive ritmičke strukture, ali ima i mnemoničku funkciju, jer je poznato Sarajlićevo uvjerenje kako poezija treba biti zapamtljiva.

SARAJLIĆ I ISTORIJA

Malo je bilo pjesnika, na našem jeziku, koji su toliko predano i strasno branili dostojanstvo života kao dobra po sebi i za sebe, unatoč svekolikim prljavštinama i užasima kojima savremeni svijet kuša da to dostojanstvo sroza, a taj život da obezvrijedi. Sarajlić je dosljedno odbijao da prihvati stvar koja je u književnosti dvadesetog vijeka gotovo bila obavezna: gotovo svako ko život nije smatrao besmislenim, žalosnim i nedostojnim življenja rizikovao je da ga ne uzmu posve ozbiljno kao pisca. Pogotovo su takvi bili oni koji, kako Sarajlić reče, “u dvadesetoj, kad počnu da pišu svoje antipjesme i antidrame, ni jedan neće propustiti da pljune po životu”. Tom “pljuvanju po životu”, koje je nerijetko išlo podruku sa punom finansijskom obezbijeđenošću, suprotstavljao se, na brojne i različite načine, takoreći svaki stih Sarajlićev.

Verše zvěčňuje na pohledy a do sms zpráv adresovaných svému příteli Pavlu Klvačovi, který v letech 2002–2014 také působil na Katedře environmentálních studií. Metafikční strategie nedůvěry polské básnické generace 68 ve vybraných filmech krzysztofa kieślowského

The article summarizes the current research state of the key filiation of the Polish poetry Generation 68 and early films by Krzysztof Kieślowski, which is defining against “the undepicted world” (Julian Kornhauser a Adam Zagajewski) or “the fight against fake representation of language” (Slavoj Žižek), as described by Marek Haltof, a film scientist, in his work. In this respect, Haltof’s monograph draws on the literary-critical collection called “Świat nie przedstawiony” (1974) by Kornhauser and Zagajewski which is recognized as a program manifesto for Generation 68. He sees the filiation with Kieślowski’s films as various manifestations of one cultural tendency in 1968–1975 and thus he is limited to early documentary films. The aim of the paper is to broaden Haltof’s concept by the conclusions of the second key work characterizing Generation 68, which is the study by Stanisław Barańczak called “Nieufni i zadufani” (1971) and describe the metafictional strategy of the distrust of language as a significant feature of Kieślowski’s film work in all its periods as well as genres, that is both documentary and fiction films from 1968 to 1994.
