The Bible, which is indisputable regarded as the inspired word of God, is written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Man, as an earthen vessel, was used by the Holy Spirit to pen the revelation of God’s truth in Jesus Christ. The Holy Scriptures are “God breathed” words to the Church and are key in interpreting and fulfilling God’s telos for creation. This write-up wishes to emphasize and survey the critical role of the Holy Spirit in the Scriptures. Due to the inspiring role of the Spirit, the word of God is not a dead letter, rather a life-giving word that spills new life into the believer and the Church. Precisely this connection of Spirit and letter marks the Holy Scripture as living and active and conveys the desired transformative dimension for the individual believer and the faith community.

The article analyzes the topic of speaking in tongues, notably, the question, can Christians speak in tongues in the church service without interpretation. In the first part, the article presents various views on glossolalia that exist among the Christians. The second part introduces the problematic of differences between glossolalia in 1 Corinthians and the book of Acts which is then followed by the textual analysis of key parts of 1 Corinthians and Acts. Based on analysis it is suggested that the best way to reconcile differences about glossolalia between 1 Corinthians and Acts is to make distinction between devotional and ministerial glossolalia. The third part of the article offers remarks and summary of the topic with a conclusion that Christian can speak in tongues in the service and not every speaking in tongues needs to be interpreted.

The article provides an overview of the theme of God as father in the Old Testament and, briefly, its continuity in the New Testament. The theme of God’s fatherhood continues and expands in the New Testament, and comes into the center of New Testament theology.

Prikazat ćemo zahtjeve duhovnog vodstva, kako bismo prvo povukli razliku između duhovnog i sekularnog vodstva. Potom ćemo objasniti zašto vodstvo uopće, a zatim postaviti teološke temelje vodstva.

The article analyzes the Old Testament practice of tithing in the context of the principle of Christian giving. The article first analyzes Old Testament examples of tithing prior to the giving of the Mosaic Law since they are used to support the claim that Christians today should give tithes. Arguments of both sides are presented and discussed. Second, the article analyzes all places where the New Testament mentions tithing, presenting arguments for and against claims that Christians today should tithe. After that the article discusses all key New Testament places that talk about giving and it is concluded that the New Testament does not support the claim that Christians must tithe. The conclusion of the article is that Christians have a responsibility to give, and tithing can be only one way to practice giving, but by no means a command that we must obey. Moreover, compared with the Old Testament, the New Testament sets an even higher standard of giving.

“In Jesus Name” has become a “catch phrase” with which to conclude a Christian prayer. This article attempts to seriously challenge a “simple” understanding of this important phrase by examining the teaching of the New Testament. To invoke the name of Jesus was to identify the follower of Jesus as one who belongs to Christ and shares the life of Christ with all the challenges, responsibilities, and privileges that is incumbent upon that relationship. Life is to be lived, words are to be spoken, and activities are to be done with serious consideration of the authority and responsibility that is demanded by “in the name of Jesus Christ.”

The article analyzes the OT practice of tithing in the context of the principle of Christian giving. While it is generally accepted that Evangelical Christians have an obligation to financially support the work of their local church, church ministers, those in need, etc., it is questionable whether Christians today have an obligation to tithe. Starting from the Pentateuch, the first part of the article discusses various instructions that God gave to Israelites regarding tithing, and special attention is given to the speech about tithing in Malachi. Presenting various interpretations and understandings of tithing, the author argues that, although for Christians tithing is not mandatory, they have an obligation to give, and tithing can be one way of financial support of the local church.

The aim of the article is to present the general view of mystical experience which emerges from the group of four spiritual writers related to The Golden Age of English Mysticism. All of them lived during the 14th century representing affective mysticism and negative theology. The most significant representatives of the period in English spirituality are Richard Rolle, the anonymous author of The Cloud of Unknowing, Walter Hilton and Julian of Norwich. The English eccentricity and utterly unique individuality mark all four mystics so much that the spiritual writers of the century never formed a national school. Nevertheless, they shared common values, approaches and the typical late medieval desire to express traditional Latin spirituality in the vernacular. Until today they are the greatest English prose writers of their age and their works remain unsurpassed masterpieces among all spiritual treatises written in the English language.

Among various anthropological questions religion surely takes the central position. The author of the article tries to show C. Geertz’s conception of religion as the background of evolutionist and functional debates about it. He departs from perceiving religion in the categories of a social fact towards treating it as a system of symbols. The model suggests a certain closed circulation of connected elements: ethos and worldview, mutually confirming each other. Worldview is an element of the natural structure of the world. This suggests that it is the only possible and natural way of acting and perceiving the world, consolidated by religious and emotional experience that is an element of the ritual. In the situation of social change religious symbols seem to lose their influence, turning into various forms of ideology – a phenomenon Geertz called “ideologization of religion”. This is done owing to the victory of “commonsensical cognition” over religious cognition. By the very fact the religious lifestyle – “religiousness” – is transformed into “religious-mindedness”. The struggle between them is the “struggle for reality”.

The purpose of this article is to analyze the contemporary debate on “popular practices” in the light of the dialogue between Pope Francis and the representatives of popular movements during three different world meetings organized by the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development. Popular movements are grassroots organizations and social movements. They represents increasingly excluded social actors as landless farmers, homeless and persons living in communities without adequate infrastructure. Popular movements are collective subjects or groups coming together and recognizing themselves neither in a national identity nor in the same social class. The purpose of the author is to establish a connection between the creativity of the popular movements and Michel de Certeau’s semiotic of everyday life.

Meditation, one of the most ancient forms of religious practice, appears to be undergoing a late modern revival. One of the key expressions of this contemplative turn has emerged in the current popularity of mindfulness - a form of meditation originally derived from the Buddhist Theravada tradition. Following the groundwork laid by the global expansion of yoga, meditation is thus widely considered to represent the latest ripple in the easternisation of the West. This article seeks to offer a renewed examination of this subject by presenting the first qualitative study of mindfulness in Poland. Drawing on interviews with leading practitioners in the Polish public landscape, we present evidence showing that mindfulness denotes a much more spiritual form of practice than typically assumed. These findings call us to offer a fresh look into the increasingly complex ways in which our existing categories of religion, spirituality, and now the secular are currently being played out in relatively overlooked parts of the European continent.

Consecrated persons are to point the way to God and to bear witness by their own life to the existence of eternal life. For that reason such persons cannot allow their interior life to lose its supernatural dimension. Yet this is the kind of loss which takes place when spiritual progress is turned into a psychological quest. Such is the consequence of moving the formational process in religious life from virtues to feelings. It causes the candidate to religious life to develop a relativistic worldview, with the end result being the further protestantization of Catholicism as a move toward a horizontal faith based on feeling and subjective experience of the faith. Only a return to virtues in an evangelical life immersed in the Beatitudes can lead to the revitalization of religious life and the increase of its attractiveness. A return to virtues will equip the consecrated person with the tools needed to face all trials and tribulations.
