The 19th Congress of the Chinese Communist Party marked the completion of the first term of the fifth generation of leaders. Xi Jinping announced that China entered “a new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics,” which is a new slogan, a symbol of Xi’s second term. Contrary to some expectations, the Congress was not a political breakthrough, as the party’s goals—to hold its power, maintain stability in the country and regain a superpower status—remain unchanged. New means of achieving these goals will be employed, however, including new technologies in economic and social management, while in foreign policy China will be more active globally, proposing or even exporting solutions based on Chinese standards.

The purpose of the article is to analyse the concepts of sumak kawsay / suma qamaña and Pacha Mama introduced into the constitutions of the Republic of Ecuador and the Plurinational State of Bolivia at the end of the first decade of the 21st century, which have a juridical impact across other countries of Latin America. The new ideas form a different axiology for constitutional systems in this region of the world from the previous one and represent an attempt to move away from an anthropocentric vision of society.Using historical, formal-dogmatic and comparative-legal methods, the author presents the development of Latin American constitutionalism, analyses the global and local determinants of the popularity of the aforementioned concepts at the beginning of the present century, deconstructs the notions of sumak kawsay / suma qamaña and Pacha Mama and shows their positions in the constitutions of both the Republic of Ecuador and the Plurinational State of Bolivia. The result of the study proves that the post-colonial concepts used as foundations for the newly formulated constitutional systems of the Republic of Ecuador and the Plurinational State of Bolivia are an essential step towards the creation of an original constitutional tradition in Latin America that takes into account the history and values of the indigenous peoples of the Andes and the Amazon.

This article focuses on Daniel Bos’s “popular geopolitics 3.0” term. The hypothesis is that this concept is considered unconvincing. In the research tradition of popular geopolitics, it was and is typical to separate studies on the creators of geopolitical symbols in pop culture, i.e. the elites (popular geopolitics 1.0), and on their consumers (popular geopolitics 2.0). Analyses of the process of producing geopolitical meanings in pop culture artifacts have been rarely undertaken. In the opinion of Bos, his holistic studies on the geopolitical meaning of military-themed video games integrate research on the text, audience and production. However, they can hardly be considered a new trend in popular geopolitics. Because they relate to the narrow sphere of pop culture, they cause a lot of problems with the consistency of the approach and are of limited use for geopolitical research of other pop culture artifacts. The use of the term “popular geopolitics 3.0” would be more appropriate to the study of the interference between social media, pop culture and geopolitics.

Ukraine has been, since its independence in 1991, located between two qualitatively different types of geopolitical environments – modern to its east and post-modern to its west. Given the tendencies of both to growth, nonetheless, using different means and seeking divergent goals, Ukraine turned into a geopolitical battlefield that due to the internal developments in Russia stepped into a hot phase in 2014 with further escalation in 2022. The article presents an interpretation of the events through neomedieval and imperial lenses, explaining the behaviours of both the West and Russia and the consequences their foreign policies had for the current situation in the country. It concludes that the mutual misunderstanding about the nature of the respective projects – mainly of the voluntary enlargement of the EU and NATO – led to unnecessary clashes and escalation of the contest by the Russian modern empire.
