Subsequent remarks reflect the attempt to shed some light on the integration problems of a specific group of persons in Germany - youthful repatriates from the USSR - and thus to make them under-standable to a larger group of people. The report should not only convey impressions, but also analyze the results obtained. At least it understands himself as a contribution to this discussion. The material presented here is not representative in the statistical sense. It remains questionable whether the problematic field addressed here can be tackled with conventional empirical-analytical methods. Atta-ched appear techniques that have been developed in action research. But here is not the place for method-critical considerations.

Whose Message Will Win the Souls? The Future Development of Religious Life in Cyberspace And Its “Chinese Characteristic”

The Internet has culminated in the development of tools for human communication that began with the appearance of languages and continued with the inventions of writing, typography, radio, and television, leading to the contemporary computermediated communication. At each stage throughout history, applying these new tools in human society changed its basic functions deeply. The sphere of religion was obviously not left outside these transformational processes. With the rise of contemporary information technologies, radical changes on the religious scene can be predicted, parallel to those of communication revolutions in the past. It can be supposed that the religious traditions that will most effectively adapt to new technologies will be the most successful ones on the globalized market of world religions. Based on this observation, this article is trying to find features that should enable religious movements to succeed in this process. The main source for the prognosis originates in the research of the religious activities in the Chinese environment, especially those of the Falun Gong movement. As China will soon become the key actor in reshaping (not only) the cyberspace of the future, the observations made in this environment can be an important inspiration for predicting the further development of religious life on the entire Internet.

Kimlik Gelişimi: Anlatı Kimliği ve Kuşaklararası Anlatı Kimliği

The aim of this study is to examine the development of identity and the role of identity theories on identity in the related literature. In Erikson's psychosocial identity theory, it is emphasized that the variables in the biological-individual-social aspects of the individuals are critical in ego identity formation. The theorists who came after Erikson and were influenced by his ideas were predominantly focused on one aspect of identity in their identity studies. In the developmental psychology litera-ture, individual-internal factor centered theories have been put forward in the identity formation. In the last three decades, it is seen that narrative theorists have holistically studied Erikson's theory by examining identity formation and development. In the narrative identity form, individuals form a story based on their past experiences, and they live and form an identity accord-ing to the story they create. Individuals have the chance to express the relationship of all the variables in their identity for-mation because they narrate all the variables related to their identities through narratives. Narrative theorists have tried to clarify that self-stories, inter-generational stories, master narrative, historical and social events form an identity.

Liquid Narrative of European Cultural Identity in the Time of Uncertainty (2008–2020)

As Leonidas Donskis (2016: 9) once wrote, “Europe has been saved many times by its narrative powers”. In this time of uncertainty and disasters, our public narratives are filled with gossips, conspiracies, intolerance, and hate speech that strengthen divisions in society. During pandemic lockdowns, when physical closeness is exchanged with social interactions online and when global identities and culture are uploaded on digital platforms, we ask: what does it mean to be European in a time of uncertainty and what binds our collective identities and helps us to overcome our fears and anxieties? Considering the past and present (2008–2020) global and European economic, political, healthcare, and cultural as well as personal crises, this auto-ethnographic essay raises these questions: How can personal narratives help to strengthen European cultural identity in these times of uncertainty? Do personal narratives weaken collective identities? By using an auto-ethnographic approach, this paper is an attempt to determine whether a holistic research approach can be used in the analysis of “liquid” European cultural identity and personal narratives. Therefore, this paper is not just for finding the right answers or right stories but is meant to act rather as a stepping stone for further discussion on how to communicate European cultural identity and how to raise self-identification, cultural solidarity, and unity during these times of uncertainty.

In this article we set out to investigate the way in which the value of freedom appears and is understood in the culture of the old Romanian villages. We have developed this analysis with the stated aim of dismantling an old historical prejudice widespread among European historians that the moral and legal freedom of the peasantry is a late gain of modernity, one that members of agricultural communities will acquire in Europe only during the18-th century, more specifically with the "Great" French Revolution. According to this prejudice, before 1789 the European peasantry would have been from the beginning to the end a servitude class made up entirely of Serbs, some of whom had never enjoyed freedom before the Eighteenth Century. In the second part we will analyze some of the components of this regime of peasant freedom.

“My Grandparents Are Separatists”: How Young Ukrainians Perceive Their National Community

Based on focus group discussions with young people in Ukraine, this article analyzes how young Ukrainians conceptualize their national community. The understanding of nationalism in the study rests upon the concept of a discursive formation of a nation. In line with this concept, nationalism is viewed as a certain mode of discourse that reflects citizens’ interpretations of who constitutes a nation. The analysis of the focus group discussions reveals how young Ukrainians perceive the Ukrainian nation in terms of a community with a specific socio-political order, culture, and mentality.

The author presents this problem from the perspective of selected scientific theories and presents the results of empirical research. The text consists of two main parts (theoretical and practical). The first includes considerations on the concept of identity in social sciences, and the second foucuses on the analysis of the concept of national identity (selected concepts). The research part presents the results of empirical research related to the level of self-identification in terms of national identity of Kosovar Albanians. The text opens with an introduction and instead of the ending, the author includes a symbolic quote.

A nyugati külföldi közösség kialakulása Japánban

For many centuries, Japan had little experience of coexistence with foreign nationals or major national minorities. In the 16th century, however, it established fairly intensive contacts with some European states, which led to relatively strong links with international trade and the mass spread of Christianity within the country. However, it was the success of the new religion that led the central authorities in the country to gradually close Japan to foreigners in the first half of the 17th century. The small Dutch community was strictly confined to the small island of Dejima in Nagasaki, and its life in Japan was tightly regulated. It was not until Perry's mission and the forcing of the establishment of official relations between Japan and the Western powers that the conditions were set for the emergence of a wider foreign community in Japan. This was concentrated primarily in the newly established port of Yokohama, which became an important seat of the foreign enclave in Japan. While on the one hand foreigners enjoyed considerable privileges in the country due to the existence of unequal treaties, on the other hand they had to face considerable problems, especially xenophobia on the part of part of the Japanese population. Despite this, they became a permanent part of the economic, political, and cultural scene here, and their influence on the development of Japan in the Meiji era is undeniable.

Kuulub - ei kuulu - Kuulumise, konviviaalsuse ja autohtoonsuse mõistetest

The article introduces to Estonian readers selected terms and concepts that have been developed in recent decades to describe and make sense of daily experiences of living with difference in contemporary multicultural and -lingual societies. The focus is on the concept of belonging as theorised by Elspeth Probyn, Nira Yuval-Davis and Floya Anthias, among others; also discussed are autochthony and conviviality. The aim is to broaden the vocabulary and thus the ways of thinking about Estonia’s diverse population and about the different kinds of ties and experiences that bind individuals to Estonia. The idea that nationality (Est. rahvus) equals ethnicity is prevalent in Estonian public discourse, as is the equation of cultural identity with national/ethnic identity. Belonging and conviviality provide vantage points from which to critique and reflect on the concept of identity and to go beyond such ingrained patterns of thought and speech. Another motivation of this article is to acknowledge the common ground between interdisciplinary studies of belonging and folkloristics, much of which revolves around expressive forms and practices whereby belonging is sought and experienced – or contested and denied. The concept of vernacular and the idea of humble theory, which have inspired many folklorists over the past decades, build on lived quotidian experiences and ethnographic methods, as do studies of belonging and conviviality.

THE PECULIARITIES OF NATIONAL IDENTITY OF AUSTRALIAN UKRAINIANS IN THE WORKS OF L. BOHUSLAVETS

After a period of continuous troubles that Ukraine has witnessed over a period of its history, the issue of national identity today appears to be more acute than ever before. It is explained by various reasons that are not under consideration in this research. However, the notion of national identity, its factors and modern perspectives are of a great scientific importance. Amid the principles of identity there is one that refers to the existential feeling of belonging and the desire to unite in factions with those who share similar interests. Besides, national identity is viewed as the factor that affects the preservation and development of the Ukrainian nation. The paper presents the research with aim to define the national identity and its integral parts that are essential for identity preservation. National identity is understood as a collective structure that illustrates how similar or different the elements of society are. Five factors of national identity that are considered in the paper are the collective identification that is realized in religious and cultural beliefs, common history and the feeling of belonging, active social life, which is illustrated by one’s participation in cultural activities, geographical belonging and national character that is a set of cultural believes followed by the representatives of a particular national group. The literary work of Lesia Bohuslavets, a Ukrainian immigrant who lives in Australia, is under consideration in this paper. She was defined as a writer under analysis as she is viewed as an example of those conscientious Ukrainians who feel responsible for cultural and national preservation. The literary work “My Australian kuma” of Lesia Bohuslavets was analysed by means of content analysis which is a statistic means of language evaluation. The result of content analysis proved that national character and active social life categories were marked with the highest variables. It means that exactly these factors are the most influential in the context of national identity preservation.

Rola obozów letnich w radykalizacji norweskiego Socjalistycznego Związku Młodzieży w latach 1967-1969

The aim of this article is to examine the influence of summer camps on the radicalization process of the Socialist Youth League, which resulted in the founding of the first Maoist organization in Norway in 1969. The three camps, held in August 1967-69, have so far been only marginally present in research on the Maoist movement and have never been the subject of specific analysis. Meanwhile, the camps, organized a month before the annual congresses, appear as a convenient tool to influence the organization and develop possible ways of radical agitation. The camp proceedings and the way they were utilized can provide important information on the backstory of the Maoist faction’s successes in the League, as they were organized on the initiative of Maoist radicals and their form and place in the life of the organization were an important component in the „Maoisation” of the entire organization. Moreover, they can be seen as a mirror reflecting the process of radicalization itself. My main sources were the programs, documents and newspapers distributed at the camps, as well as later reflections and evaluations published in internal journals. In order to analyze the place and role of the camps in the process of „radicalization”, I used a combination of different conceptualizations of radicalization, which allowed to frame the problem within the context of the political rebellion of the 1960s. The conclusions of the analysis will expand knowledge of this specific phenomenon in the political history of Norway and contribute to the debate on the processes of acquisition of radical views by youth organizations.

National Identity and Economic Activity of Ukrainian Population: Relationship and Differences in the Regions

This research examines the relation between the levels of national identity of Ukrainians in different regions of the country and the current state of their economic activity. The study explores whether the changes in economic activity of Ukrainian population are related to the changes in the level of its national identity. We used the results of the national poll, conducted by the sociological agency in Ukraine, together with data from State Statistics Service in Ukraine. The indicators of linguistic, civic and cultural identity were compared to regional human development indices, and indicators of socio-demographic status and economic activity of population in five aggregative regions in Ukraine. The results showed how differently people within the same country perceive social and economic standards of living and have various perceptions of the basis of their own national identity. This affects the processes of national identification and establishment of emphasis in regional development paths, as well as contributes to definition of the most relevant to a particular region levers of economic influence on the processes of national identification.

THE ARCHITECTURAL PLACE IDENTITY – AN AUTHORIAL PROPOSAL OF A MEASUREMENT INDICATOR

The architectural place identity belongs to the historical and cultural heritage related to landscape architecture. It exerts a great impact on both the observers’ perception of the given space and their emotional attitude. The authors’ main goal was to create a tool that would enable objective assessment and measurement of the place identity phenomenon. Accordingly, the aim of this article is to present the result of accepting this approach – an architectural place identity indicator, as well as to discuss and promote conducting more research into this subject. It also provides the definition and clarification of the analyzed term. The measurement indicator of the chosen phenomenon has been presented against the background of the City of Wrocław and its urban public areas. The applied method allowed examining the analyzed issues within the given spatial range. The article comprises a complete theoretical description of the research and reveals all the options of its use in practice.

In this respect, while examining the identity bond that immigrant communities establish with their homeland through food, it aims to theoretically shape the argument that immigrant communities have a threshold position at the stage of their arrival and integration into their host society.The first part of the study is on the relationship between food and migration, through the studies that have come to the fore in the literature; cultural equivalent is summarized. In the last part, the threshold positions of immigrant communities and the possibility of providing a new collective equality within the host society were questioned.

With the development of computational research methods and the availability of large electronic databases, interdisciplinary research in physics has boomed in recent decades. By modelling complex systems based on networks, we can study biological, social or even economic systems. Social physics (sociophysics) studies the behaviour of crowds of people, while economic physics (econophysics) tries to model economic phenomena using the methods of statistical physics. At the Hungarian Institute of Physics of Babeș-Bolyai University, under the direction of Zoltán Néda, some interesting research results on collective phenomena and complex systems have been produced in recent years. Zoltán Néda’s research area is interdisciplinary applied statistical physics, including the statistical physics approach to social phenomena. The researcher has spoken about the nature of complex systems and their modelling methods.

In trying to discover ourselves as artists, we are too often on the verge of making mistakes, or sometimes we may even commit acts that we will never be able to motivate or repair. There are many such acts, but two stand out among them. The first, as a common feature of every generation, is letting go of the past. The second, probably more dangerous than the first, coagulates in the future artist's desire to act similarly to the one who is successful or to the one whose work is said to represent the model and, therefore, success. On the wire stretched between these points each one of us dances at some point, until, if we're lucky, we fall and go our separate ways.
