Observing the Dunning - Kruger Effect in the Results of Tourism Studies

Author(s): Tibor Gonda / Language(s): English / Issue: 6(62)/2022

Keywords: Dunning-Kruger effect; questionnaire study; educational levels; environment awareness; responsible tourism;

When conducting questionnaire studies, we need to ensure that realistic results are drawn from responses in order for valid conclusions to be possible. However, we know that some people overestimate their own knowledge and competence. Scholars have identified this phenomenon as the Dunning-Kruger effect. In the course of the background analysis of the results of a 2018 study of tourism consumption habits, it was revealed that there was significant correlation between educational levels and the results of the study. However, in most cases, this relationship did not show the expected direction. The present study focuses on the results obtained for questions related to environmentally conscious and responsible consumer behavior. Several studies have verified the relationship between education and realistic self-esteem. Those with highest levels of education are most likely to have realistic views of the self and to slightly underestimate their actual knowledge and skills. In contrast, lower-skilled individuals are characterized by significantly overestimating their abilities. This is attested by the results of the current research, results that can be seen as related to the Dunning-Kruger effect.

Keywords: recreation; recreational land; recreational areas; zoning scheme; land use;

The formation and development of the recreation system generate a range of problems associated with the need to manage the development of recreational areas, which demonstrate the properties of complex environmental and economic systems. For this reason, it is critically important to improve the environmental and economic efficiency of recreational areas through the formation of an effective management system, especially in the aspect of the balanced spatial development of regions.The paper presents an analysis of various methodological approaches to the management of recreational areas, defines the stages of implementation of recreational area management, and offers a recommended recreational area zoning scheme and the corresponding recreational area management structure based on the example of the Shchuchinsko-Borovsky resort area.The results of the study suggest that recreational area management should be considered as an activity of public authorities to create conditions for the rational and effective use of the recreational potential of the region, and the adoption of rational and balanced managerial decisions can only be ensured by the establishment of a cadastre of recreational resources.

Author(s): Mohammad Khasawneh,Bashar M. Al Najdawi,Hakam S. Shatnawi,Samer Fandi Ababneh / Language(s): English / Issue: 6(62)/2022

Keywords: COVID-19; travel intention; corporate social responsibility; risk perception; international tourist businesses;

The goal of this research was to determine if corporate social responsibility, risk perceptions, and understanding of COVID-19 of international tourism enterprises had an impact on Jordanian travelers’ decisions about international tourist products. Questionnaire (self-reporting) was created and distributed to 321 participants, with 311 valid replies being evaluated for statistical analysis. The results of the multiple linear regression show that risk perception, COVID-19 knowledge perception, and international tourism enterprises' corporate social responsibility are major determinants of attitude toward and behavioral intention. Nevertheless, the limited sample size raises the question of generalizability, which should be examined in more depth in future research. The influence of international tourism businesses on travelers’ decision-making by the majority of respondents suggests that such international tourist businesses have a lot of room to grow in the future. The difficulty is to ensure that it continues to match tourism's expectations, resulting in an increase in international tourist business visitors. This research is advanced since it contains information on worldwide tourism businesses, particularly in Jordan. The tourism industry will benefit from the main aspects identified.

In the context of developing our partnership with the European Union, it is also important to study the prospects for cooperation with individual European countries. Hungary is of great interest in this regard, as a country that has deep historical roots with our people, a country that has passed the path of political and economic reforms and has recently become a member of the EU and NATO. Prospects for the development of cultural and humanitarian relations are becoming wider every year. This fact is facilitated by the historical proximity of the two peoples, and their desire for the revival of national culture and traditions. It is noteworthy that in addition to economic, scientific and cultural cooperation, a productive exchange of experience in the field of public administration, as well as the development of tourism, has been established between Kazakhstan and Hungary.

After adjusting the vocabulary, the interpersonal communication pattern could be circular or two-way. The motives to become a tour guide as deaf tourists were divided into three: the motive of knowledge, the motive of the social network, and sign language attraction. Meanwhile, communication barriers during the tour guiding process were differences in vocabulary, lack of international signaling skills, and English ability.

The bibliometric analysis method with VOSviewer is used to provide our understanding of the structure related to the topic under study, as well as to map and identify certain patterns, including analyzing and visualizing the co-occurrence of keywords, co-citations of cited authors, and co-citations of cited sources. A total of 117 documents on e-business and tourism topics from the Scopus database are reviewed. We find that the trend of research on e-business and tourism simultaneously has not increased significantly since 2003. We also found research topics that have the opportunity to be researched based on emerging keywords. In addition, we found the authors and journals who contributed the most to the topic of e-business and tourism research, and how they were connected. To our knowledge, this study is the first to conduct a bibliometric analysis on the topic of e-business and tourism simultaneously, in which 117 publications were systematically examined using bibliometric analysis with VOSviewer.

Distance Elasticity of Tourism Demand

Author(s): Robert Bęben,Zuzanna Kraus,Izabela Półbrat / Language(s): English / Issue: 6(62)/2022

Keywords: travel distance; demand measurement; market segmentation; tourist demand; tourist behavior;

Understanding the behaviours of potential customers is crucial for effective management. Distance to destination and travel time are among the most important variables which influence customers' behaviours. The authors focused on the relation between the potential level of tourist demand and the distance to be travelled by tourists. The subject of the analysis presented in the paper shows the measurement of distance demand elasticity with selected variables that influence the tendency to stay far from an everyday environment for leisure time travels. The authors created a method called Distance Elasticity Meter (DEM), which allows to analyse a range of optimal travel times for different target groups. The results can be used to estimate the potential demand of a specific destination and for segmentation analysis. DEM enables the determination of a potential target market in conjunction with the communication access of certain destinations, but it can also have other applications.
