A review of balneary-climatic tourism in Suceava County and the related studies

Author(s): Luciana-Alexandra Costan (Briciu) / Language(s): English / Issue: 1/2019

Keywords: mineral water; peat bog; bioclimate; salt mine;

A brief review of the studies on balneary-climatic tourism in Suceava County highlights the existence of important resources in the study area for this type of tourism. Past and present tourist facilities for balneary-climatic tourism are described, with a focus on the unexploited potential. The tonic-stimulant bioclimate is specific to the greatest part of the territory because the mountainous area stretches from the western boundary to the eastern third of the county. Of high interest is the Vatra Dornei – Poiana Stampei area due to the numerous mineral waters and the peat bogs. The case of Cacica salt mine, which is used in the aerosol therapy and is an important tourist attraction, is discussed. The presence of hydrocarbon vapours in the mine hingers the beneficial effects of the salt deposits, but this subject was not analysed by local authorities in order to mitigate the issue. Pools with salt water are used by tourists in the study area, but other surface freshwaters are also useful for balneary purposes.

THE ELUSIVE RELATIONSHIP OF STATE POWER AND SOCIETAL PEACE: REFLECTIONS ON THE CASE OF KOSOVO

Author(s): Albana Cerkrezi,Reina Zelenaj Shehi,Festina Kabashi / Language(s): English / Issue: 2/2022

Keywords: Kosovo; UN; Responsibility to Protect; sovereignty; women; human rights;

Twenty years ago, NATO’s intervention against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY), taking place without the approval of the UN Security Council (UNSC), challenged the sovereignty and non-interference norms the UN had perceived as international peace and order, until that moment. While the military action served to question existing principles, it simultaneously examined the effectiveness of non-authorization. Moreover, the Kosovo case stimulated one of the most important UN reforms that transformed the concept of sovereignty from right to responsibility. Conceptually, the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) has largely advanced since then. The transformation shifted the attention from political to sociological peace making society, gender and victims of conflict at the focus of peacebuilding and peace sustaining processes. The juxtaposition of state and societal peace continues in post-conflict Kosovo with both approaches being intermingled: the security debate covers attempts for a peace-building agenda, whereas the formation of a national army is pursued.

Environmental Concerns in the Framework of General Sustainable Development and Tourism Sustainability

Author(s): Eka Purwanda,Willya Achmad / Language(s): English / Issue: 7(63)/2022

Keywords: environment; climate change; sustainable tourism; socio-economic development; sustainable development;

The goal of this study is to provide a synthesis and update tour on general sustainable development and tourism sustainability taking into consideration also the environmental concerns. In this paper, we show how environmental concerns, which were once thought to be the most important aspect of sustainable development, are still one of the most important factors to consider when attempting to ensure sustainable growth while taking both economic and social considerations into account worries. This study emphasizes the importance of the local region in our days, in addition to the importance of the global region, as well as the need for sustainability to be integrated with social responsibility activities. Furthermore, this study demonstrates how sustainable development may be "traced" back to statements, meetings, and documents held around the world and in each country. All of this demonstrates the importance of sustainable development, as well as the significant worry it raises in regard with environmental concerns. The second part of this article discusses the evolution of sustainability in the tourism business. Particular attention is placed on how the sector might be related to overall sustainable development.

Author(s): Aliya Miyazhdenovna Nurgaliyeva,Zhanar Shamilovna Kazbekova,Laura Kurymbaevna Bokenchina,Dana Bekniyazova,Kazbek Kuandykovich Bokenchin / Language(s): English / Issue: 7(63)/2022

Keywords: green bonds; sustainable development goals; green investments; environmental projects; green stock exchange;

Sustainable business development based on environmental, social, and governance principles is one of the leading trends in the financial and global community. The introduction of environmental, social, and governance principles is intended to facilitate the implementation of countries’ pledges under the Paris Agreement on Climate and the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. In 2015, the Republic of Kazakhstan committed to following sustainable development goals, which made the principles of a sustainable and green economy a national priority of the 2050 Strategy. The study aims to identify the opportunities to use green bonds in Kazakhstan so as to increase the effectiveness of territorial management and the development of environmental projects. Proceeding from an expert survey, the study establishes arguments in favor of developing green bonds for the implementation of environmental projects in Kazakhstan, outlines the main hindrances to the advance of green bonds in the country, and lists the conditions required for further proliferation of the use of green bonds. The authors argue that the active use of green bonds can be facilitated by knowledge exchange, capacity building, and state support (especially in analyzing the economy of Kazakhstan) for the development of the market for green bonds, as well as state encouragement of private investors to green investment.

Keywords: discharging; water sources, environmental protection law; environmental crime; criminal responsibility;

This research seeks to clarify the conditions of Criminal Responsibility for the Crime of Discharging Polluting Substances for Water Sources, as the research's dilemma is the lack of effective penal provisions that prevent the offender from committing the crime of discharging polluting substances for water sources. Several conclusions and recommendations have been reached as a consequence of this research, the most important of which is the need for Jordan's criminal legislator to establish deterrent legal provisions that lead to not committing the crime of discharging polluting substances for water sources so that as countries around the world strive to preserve the territorial waters from any environmental pollution, these countries imposed a penalty on those who pollute the regional waters in any way.

Innovative Potential of Regional Economic Systems under Conditions of Variability of Ecological and Economic Processes

Author(s): Gulzira Akzhanova,Aigul Bakirbekova,Talgat Demessinov,Halina A. Shmarlouskaya,Zubirash Smagulova / Language(s): English / Issue: 7(63)/2022

Keywords: innovative potential; sustainable development; competitiveness; ecology; economy;

In this paper, the authors studied the theoretical basis for the formation of the innovative potential for the development of ecological and economic regional systems, analyzed the indicators characterizing the level of innovative development of regions, developed recommendations for improving the innovative potential of ecological and economic regional systems. The influence of external factors, including the global pandemic, on regional economic systems requires an adequate identification of the dependence of the process of forming innovative potential on the degree of their development. In this regard, the difference in socio-economic conditions for the development of regions, as well as cardinal changes in scientific paradigms and theories, require a reasoned justification of the principles of the concept of forming the innovative potential of economic regional systems in the context of the rapidity of technological patterns and ecological influences. All this reinforces the need to substantiate the theoretical and methodological key concepts of development and formation of the innovative potential of economic systems of regions, determined by an understanding of the economic essence of the category “innovation potential” adapted to modern conditions of economic development, considering the factor dependence of the formation of stable and dynamic development of economic mesosystems.

Is Mandatory Ecological Information Disclosure Linked with Real Ecological Performance? Evidence from Gauteng Local Government, South Africa

Author(s): Thomas Nyahuna,Mishelle Doorasamy / Language(s): English / Issue: 7(63)/2022

Keywords: ecological disclosure; environmental performance; municipalities; South Africa;

This paper establishes the degree of mandatory ecological information disclosure of eight municipalities in Gauteng province, South Africa and investigates whether greater environmental performers with higher deviation levels reveal additional information regarding their ecological performance. To get a good understanding of the degree of environmental information disclosures of sampled municipalities, a content analysis index grounded on the conservation segment of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) procedures was constructed. The findings show a poor degree of ecological disclosure among municipalities in Gauteng, with a mean total of 14.67 out of 100. Additionally, the outcomes divulge a favourable link between ecological disclosure and basic ecological performance, as projected by the stakeholder theory.

Post-Pandemic Reflections on Pedagogy Students’ Preparation for Working with Early Education Pupils

Postpandemiczne refleksje na temat przygotowania studentów pedagogiki do pracy z dziećmi w wieku szkolnym i wczesnoszkolnym

Author(s): Justyna Siemionow / Language(s): English / Issue: 1/2022

Keywords: COVID-19 pandemic; students’ educational experience; socio-emotional competences; early education

The article presents the results of preliminary research connected with the students’ experience of high education during the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of this paper is to introduce the meaning of this experience for the students’ future professional activities with early years education pupils. The quantitative online survey was conducted with 110 participants: pedagogy master degree students. The original online questionnaire was sent individually to each participant. The survey was based on a sample of university students who were fairly homogeneous in socio-demographic determinants, e.g. sex and age, thus, the advanced statistical analyzes could not be done. According to the data collected from closed questions, the results were presented in a form of tables. The data from the open-ended questions were subjected to a comprehensive qualitative analysis, as a result, the specific categories of answers were identified. The conclusions show clearly that the participants divide their study experience during the COVID-19 pandemic into positive and negative. There is a slight predominance of the negative experience. What is crucial, the participants consider these experiences as significant for their future profession and the process of working with a child and its family. The conducted research shows that further analysis of this experience, both by students and academic staff is essential for the study of the teachers’ socio-emotional competences. There can be no doubt about the value of such competences in supporting a child in its development.

Implementation of the Educational Function in the Context of Remote Education – Ethical and Pedagogical Aspect

Realizacja funkcji wychowawczej w kontekście edukacji zdalnej – aspekt etyczno-pedagogiczny

Author(s): Małgorzata Łobacz / Language(s): English / Issue: 1/2022

Keywords: educational function; teacher; student; COVID-19 pandemic

Upbringing is an aid in overcoming weaknesses and striving for the fullness of humanity. It consists, in its deepest nature, in valuing the individual, which is infinite, and, thus, in considering formation as a process that is never finished, a work that is subject to failure, unpredictable, yet concrete and alive. The article outlines issues concerning the implementation of the educational function, with particular reference to the period of remote education in relation to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, as well as basic issues concerning the so-called ethical sensitivity in the pedagogical profession. It points out, among other things, the problem of the ethics of the teaching profession, the importance of the educational function in the era of hurried culture, the pursuit of diplomas and qualifications – not infrequently at the expense of moral values. Education has been portrayed as a kind of call to assist the student in integral development, but also in the face of unforeseen, exceptional situations, which undoubtedly include the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Importance of Communication Between a Child and an Adult in the Times of Crises of the 21st Century

Znaczenie komunikacji dziecka z dorosłym w dobie kryzysów XXI w.

Author(s): Katarzyna Sadowska / Language(s): English / Issue: 1/2022

Keywords: child; communication; psychological well-being; interpersonal relation

The aim of the study is to draw attention to the importance of sensitive, coherent and insightful communication between a child and an adult. Effective communication seems to be particularly important in the times of crises of the 21st century, especially in the face of a pandemic during which concepts from the field of social sciences, such as psychological well-being or interpersonal relations, gained a new dimension. The author analyzes the literature on the subject on key concepts, presents and discusses the situations observed in the everyday life of children, concerning the communication situations between children and their adult carers during the pandemic. The author comes to the conclusion that interpersonal communication in the family is the foundation of the bonds established in it, determines the sense of psychological and social well-being, and determines the harmonious development of a child. In connection with the above, in the author’s opinion, it should be borne in mind that a responsible and sensitive observer – an adult guardian – must constantly watch over the child’s sense of the broadly understood well-being, creating conditions for the child to feel autonomy, agency, fulfilment and high self-esteem.

How Teen–Parent Relationships Changed during the Pandemic Period. Teenagers Talk about Thmselves

Jak zmieniły się relacje między nastolatkami a rodzicami w okresie pandemii. Nastolatki mówią o sobie

Author(s): Maria Gabriella Pediconi / Language(s): English / Issue: 1/2022

COVID-19 has had an indirect impact on families’ daily lives: the restrictive measures to limit its spread changed family routines and affected the quality of parent-adolescent relationships. Some research examined changes in parenting and parent–child relationship quality, but there is a lack within scientific literature about what is the adolescents’ specific vision about the qualitative changes of their teen–parent relationships during the pandemic period. Teens’ qualitative descriptions of relationships with parents are the focus of the explorative research presented in this paper. Fifty-three Italian adolescents described how their family relationships changed during the lockdown (March–May 2020). Most of them describe an increase in the quality of their relationships with parents and relatives and perceive the lockdown as an occasion to grow and to learn about the complex aspects of life. Instead, those who perceived the lockdown as a traumatic period describe a difficult and conflictual domestic setting during their forced isolation at home. Findings show the peculiar resilient competence of adolescents in elaborating stressful situations.

Kampanie społeczne w mediach publicznych. Problem wykorzystania bezpłatnego czasu antenowego przez organizacje pożytku publicznego

Author(s): Agnieszka Ziętek / Language(s): English / Issue: 1/2021

Keywords: social campaigns; free airtime; public benefit organisations

This article deals with the issue of social campaigns prepared by public benefit organisations and presented in public media during free airtime. The cited data show that non-profit organisations do not use the free airtime allocated to them on public radio and television. The main aim of the article is to identify the factors that influence this state of affairs. Results of the conducted analyses indicate such problems as the lack of financial resources at the disposal of PBOs, lack of knowledge about the possibility of using free airtime as well as ignorance of the procedures, or the rules governing the (post) media reality.

A contextual discussion on justice, equality and gender in media ethics

Author(s): Karsten Weber / Language(s): English / Issue: 1/2022

Keywords: Justice; Equality; Gender; Media ethics; Professional ethics; Journalism

If the concept of justice and equality is to be integrated into media ethics in a gender-sensitive way, it must be clarified which concept of justice and/or equality is to be adapted from the broad spectrum of political and social philosophy. In some theories of justice, the concept of equality plays an important positive role, while others deny that justice goes along with equality. In the following paper, this complexity and ambiguity will be outlined to show how conceptions of justice and equality would affect gender-relevant debates in the media and media ethics. To this end, however, it must be determined which social goods should or must be addressed if justice and equality are to be integrated into media ethics. As a tentative conclusion, it will have to be noted that the consideration of gender-sensitive concepts of justice and equality in media ethics as professional ethics of journalism could lead to a challenge of the norms and values intrinsic to the profession and thus to the profession itself.

Accessibility of public health information on the COVID-19 outbreak: Analysis of the first European official TV releases

Author(s): Tanja Kostanjevac / Language(s): English / Issue: 1/2022

Keywords: accessibility to media contenttent; cultural rights of persons with disabilities; public health information; social inclusion; deaf people

Due to co-morbidity, persons with disabilities are among the most endangered groups, and in terms of mortality, they are among the worst affected groups in the crisis caused by global pandemics. This crisis has extremely increased inequality and social exclusion of persons with disabilities regarding access to public health information.This paper investigates the extent to which European states have made the AV content of the announcements of the COVID-19 pandemic accessible to hearing-impaired persons.A content analysis was conducted at the beginning of the pandemiological measures (February/March 2020) introduced in the sample states. An analysis unit consists of the first TV broadcasts released with official statements of the EU member states (N=27), European Economic Area states (N=3) and Switzerland, as well as official video releases of the World Health Organization and the European Commission (N=2).From the total analyzed TV deliberate sample (N=33), a total of eight official sources provided accessibility of health information to hearing-impaired persons using a sign language interpreter; 12 sources provided subtitles, and 11 sources did not provide any form of accessible information regarding the official proclamation of the COVID-19 pandemic (including the WHO’s television release). Only four national official sources ensured full accessibility to the content of the announcement.The obtained results demonstrate the real situation characterized by insufficient social inclusion and protection of the right to information and communication and the violation of the right to health and healthy living of persons with disabilities at the European level. These results are contrary to globally adopted regulations and proclaimed protection of fundamental rights and freedoms and rights arising under the instrument of international solidarity. It is necessary to increase the level of consciousness of a community’s global social responsibility, especially in the TV media, with the purpose of the total inclusion of hearing-impaired persons in the public space. The mission of higher education institutions should include overcoming poor media social responsibility by adopting digital accessibility mechanisms and improving the intercultural skills of future media professionals.

Image media topics in the mass media of the Republic of Kazakhstan

Author(s): Tatyana Shevyakova / Language(s): English / Issue: 1/2022

Keywords: image; image media topic; media text; national identity; information space

This article aims to analyse and discuss the main image media topics in the media of the Republic of Kazakhstan since such materials largely determine the media landscape of Kazakhstan and are positioning the country in the international information space. The analytical-synthetic method is the methodological basis for the research. Additional methods were also used: comparative and inductive-deductive methods, synthesis, generalization, interpretation, analysis of scientific literature, journalistic and scientific articles, as well as content analysis and elements of meta-analysis. The author focuses on the fact that image media topics should be distinguished from media topics aimed at the formation of national identity. At the same time, it is emphasized that under certain conditions, almost any media topic can become an image and affects the country’s image in both positive and negative aspects. These issues are considered in the context of the strengthening of globalization processes.

Some thoughts on film as a possible means in the mission of the church in the context of today’s changing religiosity

Author(s): Gabriella Rácsok / Language(s): English / Issue: 1/2022

Keywords: culture; mission of the church; functions of religion; subjective turn; theology and film; film; theology

The paper seeks to present topics and themes that seem inevitable to be reviewed when looking for the answer to the question whether the motion picture medium can become a suitable means for the church to communicate and convey the message entrusted to it. The essay first tries to describe what characterises the religiosity of the people of our time. This brings us to a phenomenon which is better described by the term ‘subjective turn’ rather than postmodern. The functional definition of religion can be used to describe the religious functions of film. Starting from the transcendent function of religion a theological approach to film also becomes necessary. In linking theology and film, our inquiry cannot be confined exclusively to academic or church circles, but must include the wider public, social spheres as well. A theological approach to culture helps us to place the topic in a more general, broader framework. Karl Barth’s interpretation of culture can be a warning that the self-revealing God can also provide, outside of Scripture and the church, true words and worldly parables that can become unconscious, involuntary witnesses of the One True Word. Since film as a mediating medium provides the possibility of transcultural communication and contextualization, it allows us to view the relationship between theology and film from the perspective of contextual theological approaches to culture.
