Summary/Abstract: The effect of Ganoderma Lucidum against lung injury in the acute pancreatitis model was investigated. Eighteen rats were divided into three groups. (n=6). Group I (Control group): Laparotomy and biliopancreatic duct were prepared. Group II (Acute pancreatitis group): Acute pancreatitis and lung injury were created by ligating the bilio-pancreatic duct. Group III (Treatment group): Bilio-pancreatic duct was ligated and standardized extract of Ganoderma Lucidum was given to measure the changes in wet/dry weight ratio and myeloperoxidase activity of lung tissue. The increase in myeloperoxidase activity and wet/dry weight ratio was significantly higher in Groups II and III compared to the control group (p<0.0001). A decrease in myeloperoxidase and wet/dry ratio was observed in Group III. However, this change was not statistically significant. In our study, it was observed that Ganoderma lucidum partially reduced the lung damage caused by pancreatitis, but this effect was much more limited compared to anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and sepsis models. It can be concluded that the effect of Ganoderma lucidum components in functioning cascades is not as effective as mentioned, as there may be other factors effective in the formation mechanism of lung damage created in our experimental model.
