Summary/Abstract: To investigate whether the negative effects of ischemia-reperfusion injury on colon anastomosis can be prevented with Ganoderma lucidum extract. 24 rats were divided into three groups. (n=8) Group I (Control group): The group that underwent colon anastomosis. Group II (Ischemia-repefusion group): The group in which mesenteric occlusion was created. The group that underwent colon anastomosis by clamping A. mesenterica superior. Group III (Treatment group): Ganoderma lucidum extract was given to the group who underwent colon anastomosis by clamping A. mesenterica superior. Hydroxyproline level and anastomotic burst pressure were found to be significantly lower in Group II compared to the other two groups. (p<0.05). In Group III, an increase in hydroxyproline level and an improvement in anastomotic burst pressure were detected. The positive effects of Ganoderma Lucidum on various organs exposed to ischemia-reperfusion injury have been demonstrated in many experimental models. In our study, positive effects of Ganoderma lucidum on the healing of colonic anastomosis, which were negatively affected by ischemia-reperfusion, were determined. However, the effects of ischemia-reperfusion injury have not been fully prevented. Further studies are needed to reveal the relevant mechanisms.
