Summary/Abstract: Social work is a discipline that empowers individuals, groups and communities, liberates them, improves their well-being, evaluates them as dynamic elements, and utilizes the theory of human behavior and social systems. Until it became a discipline, it continued in the form of aid in various societies in history; traditionally and religiously. In the Orkhon Monuments, State aids are mentioned. The nation was dispersed and impoverished; starving and naked due to the state's cultural deprivation and authority gap; how they overcame these troubles and how they brought the nation to prosperity is told in the monuments of both Bilge Kagan and Kul Tigin. It is explained that the head of state works and serves for the peace, happiness, and welfare of the people. Professional social work education in Turkey started in 1961 in Ankara, at Social Services Academy, and for this purpose, world-renowned experts in the field of social work were used. The Academy was merged with the Social Work and Social Services Department of Hacettepe University in 1982 and transformed into the School of Social Services, and later it renamed the "Social Work Department". Since 2006, Sakarya University Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Social Work Department, and other universities' openings have followed. The paper is intended to address the development of social work departments in Turkey based on resources.
