Summary/Abstract: The transformation of the global security surprises in most of the cases the military organizations structured based on the rules of the last major war they fought, so is paramount to observe early a shift in paradigm in order to have the necessary time to adapt. The type of military confrontation known today as the hybrid war, can be a model on how the nature of the war is changing, but the new generation of war will probably surpass it both in amplitude and complexity. The fifth generation of war will probably absorb some of the characteristics of the previous generations of war, mainly the asymmetry and maneuvering, extended across multiple domains, with the effects of the confrontation rippling beyond the domain limits. The military factor will maintain its importance in the economy of forces and means employed, but it cannot remain isolated from the other factors anymore. Although the military confrontation will include more and more non-state entities, the fifth generation war will remain the reflection of the renewed global power competition between the states. It is to be expected that it will manifest itself along the demarcation lines of the areas of influence of the states and states alliances, contributing to their shaping. Most likely, despite the confrontation, the state actors will desire to keep the illusion of peace to invalidate the legal base of the employment of the armed forces. The aggressor state will perform the strategic modeling initially aiming the political and social system of the target state to induce discontent among the people, following with efforts on the international arena to gain legitimacy.
