The nature of contemporary conflicts

Summary/Abstract: The end of the Cold War and the transformation of the world order from bipolar system to unipolar system, followed by the emergence of additional power centers and new threats generated a new global security architecture characterized by a new conflict paradigm. Thus the contemporary conflicts differ from the previous ones due to the nature of the parties involved and the strategies employed. The contemporary conflicts, by their international nature, bring up the topic of legitimacy claimed not only at the individual state level but at the level of the international community as well.
