Summary/Abstract: On March 16, 1844, The Alexander Mosaic, or the Great Mosaic, is detached from the House of the Faun in Pompeii, where it occupies, as a pavement decoration, the central area of the first peristyle’s exedra and is exhibited, after a spectacular journey, in the Royal Burbon Museum, today the National Museum of Archaeology. After 177 years, in March 2021, work began on the restoration of the precious artifact. The studies and research that preceded this endeavor were carried out over a period of several years by a complex interdisciplinary group of experts and specialists, and it was finalized in a thorough restoration project. The scientific director of the work was appointed Professor Antonio De Simone, a prestigious figure in the field, and the execution of the works belongs to the company Atramentum Restauri.
