Summary/Abstract: The article examines the mythologization or demythologization of the Russian images and plots in the Bulgarian novels from the middle of the 20th to the beginning of the 21th century (S. Dichev, V. Mutafchieva, M. Ruskov). For more than a century, the image of Russia “The Liberator“ has been sacralized in Bulgarian culture. The image has acquired its critical variations only in the recent novels thanks to the real historical facts. The article scrutinizes the relationship between fiction and historiography, which gives rise to the specific view of the Russian theme by the authors.
