God’s glory and human salvation for homily preaching

Summary/Abstract: Worshiping God and glorifying Him is the need of the believer and the task of the Church’s liturgy. Due to the fact that the homily is part of the liturgy, a bridge between the table of the Word of God and the table of the Eucharist, the task of the homily is to help us give glory to God and carry the word of salvation. The article reflects on the content of the homily, which is God’s glory, understood as the emanation of God himself, His power and inexpressible greatness; the glory hidden in the work of creation and the glory that Christ most perfectly gave in the work of salvation by dying and rising for our salvation. The most perfect worship offered to God is the Eucharist, in which the homily is preached, it is necessary but not indispensable, as if worship had not taken place without it. Attention was drawn to the role of the preacher, who is aware of the mission to be fulfilled - he is to help in salvation and give the glory due to God in the liturgy. By proclaiming the word of God, he is the liturgy, i.e. the proclaimer of the mystery of salvation and at the same time offering the sacramental sacrifice in the place of Christ and on behalf of the Church. He should demonstrate a good knowledge of the preaching technique, as well as the correct knowledge of liturgical norms, so that in the right order and harmony of the liturgy celebrated, the gathered people give glory to God. Attention was drawn to the need to have knowledge of God’s glory in order to be able to speak about it. It has been noticed that a homily with a properly constructed kerygma always reflects God’s glory. It was recalled that there was a danger of covering Christ, and hence His glory, by the eccentric behavior of the preacher.
