The Wedding Homily as a Declaration of New Life in Christ

Summary/Abstract: Marriage and family are at the heart of the Church which cares for the salvation of every human being. The increase in non-sacramental relationships is a challenge for the modern pastoral activity both to reflect and to take concrete action. Jesus Christ as the only Redeemer of man is the “Offer” to be given. To discover new life in Christ is a hint of the Church for priests and the baptized who may be lost in the faith. It is a good chance to draw attention to the value of the sacramental love of man and woman. A well prepared wedding homily is a great support for its receivers. The article focuses on four aspects of the sacrament of marriage as a means of entering through faith in the life of Jesus Christ. It is the creation with Him by conjugal love a “communion of love” and this provides an eternal covenant of love on the model of the New Covenant of Christ and finally sacramental “yes”. It is an expression of the human will to live in faithful and undivided love modeled on the love of Christ to the Church.
