Helping Occupations in the Process of Professionalisation with Particular Emphasis on Social work

Summary/Abstract: The main purpose of this article is to present important issues related to the process of professionalising the helping occupations. The first part presents a brief overview of the professionalisation approach on the example of social work as a special helping profession. The second part of the article reviews the specific features of the helping professions, also referring mainly to the features of the profession of social worker. The third part discusses the main indicators of the professionalisation process in relation to social work. In the fourth and final part of the article, attention focuses on analysis of factors favouring the creation of helping occupations. All issues raised in this article require further and in-depth sociological research, especially regarding the institutional aspect of occupations focused on providing support and help to other people.
