Summary/Abstract: The paper presents onomastic data collected in twelve villages situated in the surroundings of the East Serbian town of Zaječar. They are called “Kosovan” according to the tradition that their fi rst settlers migrated from Kosovo. The local speech seems to confi rm such a migration, whose dating for the lack of written sources varies between the time immediately after the Kosovo battle fought in 1389 and the Austrian-Turkish wars of the early 18th century. Both toponymic and anthroponymic data are presented. A comprehensive list of toponyms (I 2) is preceded by historical descriptions of all twelve villages (I 1). The presentation of the anthroponymic materials (II) is divided into eight parts: family nicknames (1), surnames (2), male (3) and female (4) given names, male (5) and female (6) hypocoristics, male (7) and female (8) nicknames. All name forms are accented.
