Summary/Abstract: According to the current legislation, the identity documents certify the identity and, if necessary, the citizenship, through the data contained in them. When crossing the border, Bulgarian seafarers should prove their identity with a seaman's passport and the relevant documents confirming their employment on a ship or secondment, resp. their secondment from the ship on other grounds. The legal term "seafarers" includes natural persons who perform duties on board a ship or are included in the crew list for some other reason. Such are the natural persons who perform a position on the shore related to navigation or control over it (argument § 1, item 8 of the Additional Provisions of the Bulgarian Personal Documents Act). The article discusses the main features of the design of the seaman's passport and analyzes the international regulations of the regime for issuing identity documents of seafarers, including those introduced by the rules of Convention № 108 on national identity certificates of seafarers adopted by the International Labor Organization. during its 41st session in 1958, as well as its forthcoming denunciation by the International Labor Organization (ILO) Convention № 185 on the Identity Documents of Seafarers, adopted on 19 June 2003.
