Summary/Abstract: The ecological crisis deepening in the 21st century and the growing awareness of the inextricable links between the survival of homo sapiens as a species and the condition of the planet Earth are associated with significant shifts in the ecological discourse. Apart from the global dimension, its generational character is currently taking the foreground. Greta Thunberg, a teenage Swedish activist, has become the face of the environmental movement, where the global “we” collapses into generations blamed for the environmental catastrophe and “future generations” who will suffer from its consequences. The aim of the article is to trace the emotions expressed on the activist’s face. The research is undertaken on three levels: from the smallest pico scale, i.e. an attempt to trace Thunberg’s microexpression as shown in a series of photos, through a micro scale, i.e. messages of memes in which a pixelated image is saturated with social meanings, to a macro scale, i.e. a distilled symbolic image with the status of an icon of cyberculture. The analysis of emotions will be linked to the techniques of their spread in the new media, ranging from memes through GIFs into an icon.
