Wrocław underground and the development of metropolitan structure

Summary/Abstract: The article presents the historical development of an idea of underground in Wrocław. It shows the comparative analysis of the population and territorial coverage of the city, agglomeration and metropolitan area as a basic method for the realization of rail transport system for comparable settlement centers. The paper deals with the importance of underground in transport system of particular cities − similarities and differences among them as well as with some opportunities and risks associated with appointing the underground lines. The idea of “open underground” as an indication of Wrocław implementation method is discussed too.
