Social capital versus economic growth – selected theoretical aspects

Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the dilemmas connected with an approach to social capital in the context of discussion on its relations with the economic growth. To examine these relationships it is necessary to consider several issues and select certain options. What is the essence of social capital (networks, norms, resources),? Is it private, shared or group good? Which level: micro, mezo or macro is the basis of the analysis? Can social capital be negative? The aim of the article is to present different approaches and their justifications on the basis of literature.
