Summary/Abstract: Ioniță Sandu Sturdza, a landlord from Săucești, has been appointed ruler of Moldavia in 1822, after 110 years of Phanariot rule. The situation became possible in the context of the conflict between the Ottoman and Russian Empires, as the latter one has supported Etaireia, a movement that tried, as the rulers and the Phanariotes in the Romanian Principalities did, tho liberate Greece from the Ottoman occupation. His dethronement was made by the Russian troops which had occupied Moldavia in 1828.
