Summary/Abstract: Тhe publication raises questions of terminological derivation in the language of medieval natural philosophy in view of the inner side of linguistic processes. The author takes into account the fact that the mass creation of new terminological units during the initial period of formation of the medieval Bulgarian literary language led to the development of a number of recurring term-forming models, some of which are still productive today. The researcher dwells on the ways of term formation, on the systematic relations such as terminological polysemy, doubletness and variability, considers the relation of John the Exarch’s natural science terminology to the Bulgarian dialect vocabulary. Even a cursory review of the issues within the study shows the enormous lexical richness of the monument and its importance for the construction of the language of natural science in the Middle Ages.
