Summary/Abstract: The digital transformation of education is significant and, although the impact or precise form it will take is difficult to predict, it is clear that the resumption of physical activity in kindergartens, schools and universities will be done under certain conditions that will require the continued use of digital tools. At the moment, without proactive measures to balance the situation, education during the pandemic discriminates, instead of being an integrative solution. The debates about the digitalization of education are accentuated by the major problems that the Romanian education system is structurally facing. The issue of marked inequality, illustrated, among other things, by high dropout rates and school failure, has been constantly ignored by the education system. In other words, we have an educational system in which equal opportunities are far from a reality, and the transition to digital education risks deepening the gap that separates an affluent Romania, the large urban environment and good schools from the rest of the educational units, where digitization remains a distant desideratum in the face of infrastructure issues unworthy of the 21st century. Under these conditions, the absence of a real and coherent education plan during the pandemic risks condemning a significant number of students to a lack of future opportunities.
