Summary/Abstract: The architects of the European Union wanted for the continent to become a federal state, inspired by the United States of America, relying on the obvious success of the former colonies in all areas: military, economic, political. In less than 200 years, the US had become the world’s greatest power, leaving behind the former great European powers, wiped by wars, plagued by social movements, sick with pride. Identifying the organizational system as the main constituent element of success, as the population was predominantly derived from the continent, the supporters of the federalization of Europe proposed a federal democratic state capable of ensuring peace and development, placing in brackets the multiple esential differences between the two cases. Today, the Union is divided between the supporters of the federal state (understanding that is not exactly the same with the usual definition) and those who want an association of sovereign states that are to decide on a common road, but only up to a point. The debate is hot, and the future is uncertain. What are the chances in the next decade for a definitive decision to be taken?
