Summary/Abstract: In this paper we showed the interventions of world`s leading central banks, European central bank and Federal reserve system, made to prevent the collapse of financial markets midst the escalation of the global financial crisis. Global financial crisis, observed as the strongest crisis after «Great Depression», strongly affected the financial markets which still after three years of the beginning of the crisis do not function according to the principles of efficient market economy. The aim of this paper is to show conventional and unconventional measures of the monetary policy of two world`s leading central banks as well as associated risks. Central banks were exposed to unprecedented challenges reacting swiftly and flexibly in order to maintain the functionality of financial markets.
