Summary/Abstract: This article discusses the issue of choosing the theory of argumentation as the basis for educating interpretative competences in a foreign language and discusses it in relation to the understanding of radio debate. Starting from the assumption that the conceptualization of debate determines the type of intellectual activities that allow it to be understood, a genre and rhetorical model of this genre of discourse was proposed and the skills necessary for its critical reception were derived from it.
