Summary/Abstract: Czech music and musicians have played an important role in Chopin’s professional and sentimental life. His first piano teachers both when he was still a child and at the Warsaw Conservatory were Czech expatriates such as Zitny, Jírovec and Wurfel. Later on he became friends with the Czech “Paganini”, the violinist Slavik and many others. The Slavonic political thought, which had been growing since the early nineteenth century, was also a factor in Chopin's admiration for the Czechs, and fostered in him an urgent desire to see 'The Golden Slavonic City of Prague.' Nowadays the Chopin Society of Marianske Lazne is the second in the world and has a major contribution in promoting the musical heritage of the “poet of the piano” throughout the world.
