The Loanwords within the Language Structure of the Novel Once in July by Nura Bazdulj-Hubijar

Summary/Abstract: This paper analyses loanwords excerpted from Nura Bazdulj- Hubijar's novel Once in July. The compiled corpus includes German, English, French, Spanish, Italian, Hungarian, Russian, Greek and Latin loanwords, but the greater number of loanwords is borrowed from Oriental languages. Nouns are dominant in the corpus (85,5%). They are followed by verbs (4,3 %) and adjectives (4,3 %), then adverbs (3,8%), interjections (1,1%), and conjunctions (1%). The author uses loanwords to describe persons, objects, exterior, interior, and in dialogues. We have verified 19 thematic fields, and the greatest number of loanwords, 44 in total, belongs to the field of „household.‟ Corpus analysis has shown that the choice of loanwords is not by any means accidental. It was very accurate and subtle, and it plays an important role in building the aesthetic impression, as well as in delivering author’s message to readers. In our opinion, loanwords are lexical treasure of Bosnian language because they are subjected to different linguistic processes on their way towards integration.
