Summary/Abstract: The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between self-assessments of the musical competence of teachers and students of teacher education and their self-assessment of the creativity and motivation for teaching music culture. This research sample consisted of a total of 641 respondents, i.e. the final number of copies of an adequately filled test battery compared to the starting sample of 655: 290 students (bachelor's and master's) of teacher studies and 365 teachers (from four regions – according to the location of the school where they work: Doboj, Banja Luka, Sarajevo-Romania and Herzegovina regions). The results showed that teachers consider themselves creative and motivated for teaching music culture, but not in the field of vocal-instrumental performance, which can be related to the quality or level of musical competencies. The student samples showed no statistical significance. The paper opens new research questions on the complex problem of competence, creativity, and the motivation of teachers and students in music teaching, and points to new strategies in university music teaching, as well as in the professional development of teachers.
