Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to focus on the concept of intellectual property. The first part of the publication provides a brief historical overview of the arise of the institute of intellectual property rights. The second part of the publication examines the nature and scope of intellectual property, highlighting the difference between the content of the terms “legal protection” and “legal defense”, which is important for the intellectual property management.
