Control charts in the assessment of aggregates quality for road construction

Summary/Abstract: Melaphyre is the rock material that we use as a basic component for the construction of road, rail and buildings, as well as an additive to concrete and asphalt. It is the basic aggregates mined among others by Melaphyre Mines in Czarny Bór and Siedlimowice. Undertakings belonging to company “Strabag” focus its efforts on maintaining the high quality of crushed rocks because they want to improve their competitive position in the market. Hence, the possibility of systematic monitoring of quality of crushed rocks using familiar SPC (Statistical Process Control) tools is considered. The authors present the examples of Shewhart control charts use in the process of improving the quality of crushed rocks (for selected quality parameter).
