Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the difficult beginning of economic development of Gubin villages directly after World War Two. New inhabitants of this area had to establish economic linkage, including a new trade network. The local economy was invigorated (22 percent of manufacturing plants were triggered), since mid-1945 shops had been opened, farming cooperatives had been established, and craft businesses, mills, distilleries and birckyards had been activated. However, since 1947 Polish authorities had gradually interfered with their activity and led to their shutdown or takeover. The potential of the post-German manufacturing plants remained unexploited, which resulted in the region’s stagnation.
