Summary/Abstract: On 20 August 1944, during the formation of the 3rd Polish Army (3rd ArmiaWojska Polskiego, AWP), the 14th Mobile Field Hospital was created. Ultimately, the 3rd AWP did not come into being, so the field hospital was instead attached tothe 1st AWP as the 38th Field Evacuation Hospital. In January 1945 the unit movedto the front, where it was stationed in Bydgoszcz (from February) and Chełmno(from July). In September 1945 the hospital was reorganized to serve as a garrisonhospital in Chełmno. In April 1946 a decision was made to move the unit to theso-called regained territories, including the region of Lubusz Land, where there wasno hospital for, among others, the 5th „Saxon” Infantry Division. In May 1946 theunit was moved to Zielona Góra, where it functioned (from 1 June) as part of theCounty Hospital. Since 1944 the commandant of the hospital unit was a certainMaj. Jerzy Jentys. Inpatients were attended to by four medics (this was increased tofive in 1947) who also served the local community, working for Polish Red Cross, social insurance companies, factories, and schools. In 1948 the hospital was de-commissioned, which led to a medical crisis in the town. A Military Holiday Homewas to be created in place of the hospital, however, in the summer of 1948 the facil-ity was taken over by the county hospital. In 1946 an Officer’s Holiday Home wasalso organized in Zielona Góra, which lasted a bit longer than the hospital until itwas decommissioned in the autumn of 1948.
