Summary/Abstract: The article presents the life and death of Romanian historian Nicolae Iorga – a man with a great contribution to the development of Romanian culture in fields such as history, geopolitics, journalism, dramaturgy, philosophy and politics. An exceptional personality, Iorga was a historian, university professor, encyclopedist, poet, playwright, lit erary critic, memorialist, journalist, publicist, politician, full member of the Romanian Academy. He authored 1003 volumes, 12,755 articles and studies, 4,963 reviews. He is the author of numerous syntheses, culminating with the History of Romanians in 10 volumes, for which he was named the greatest historian and scholar of Romania of all times. As a politician, Iorga was a center-right activist, a nationalist, and held the position of Prime Minister between 1931–1932, under the rule of King Carol II.The circumstances of his death were as follows: Iorga was picked up from his villa in Sinaia in the afternoon of November 27, 1940, under the pretext that he was going to give a statement to the Capital Police Headquarters. On the same day, the former university professor and min ister Virgil Madgearu was picked up from his home in Bucharest under the same pretext. The first was found murdered in the stubble near the commune Steajnicul-Prahova, and the second, in the Snagov forest at the place called Coada Lungă.
