Summary/Abstract: Motivation is what motivates a person to work. It is one of the most important components that influences student learning. A motivated student achieves better learning outcomes than a student who is not sufficiently motivated. Over the years, various theories of motivation have developed. In our paper we have presented the following theories of motivation: behavioral, cognitive, goal theories, theories of self-determination and need, theories of personal develop, theories of attribution and learned helplessness, extrinsic and intrinsic motivation. Through each of these theories, we have highlighted it contribution to the teaching of mathematics.
