Summary/Abstract: In this text we analyze the current status of the English language as a „universal” language by practical and universal means of communication. We have taken in comparison other antiquity language, in order to obtain an historical perspective which had the status of universal language, such as the ancient Greek of the Hellenistic epoch or vulgar Latin from the time of the Empire. There were languages with universal use within the administration, army, commerce, but also languages in which sacred texts of the Cristians were written or translated into. What about today? - on what does the English language rely on? On the universal computer technique? On using tis language in diplomacy, finance, education and scientific research? On its use in global communications, transport and tourism? On the unique status of global superpower that U.S. has, so far? What will happen to the universality of English when the U.S. global hegemony will regress? These are some of the exciting and present questions on wich our text is based on and witch are submitted to the reader.
