Summary/Abstract: “The Maramuresh Diplomas” is the name for a set of documents written in Latin by the Royal Chancellery of Hungary during the XIV and the XV centuries. These documents mainly refer to the Romanians from the Maramuresh area. From these “Diplomas” we find out most interesting things about the Romanian medieval civilization in the superior course of the river Tisa. Romanians here were noblemen and organized in small military factions fought along European kings in the battles of Vidin (1396) and the battle to defense Constantinople (1453). Romanians from Maramuresh had their own justice system different from the Hungarian one and their ecclesiastical institution equivalent to a Bishop: The Peri Monastery where at the beginning of the XV century fragments from the Holy Bible was translated into Romanian.
