Summary/Abstract: Our approach in this article has the purpose of understanding the stake of initiation into the Egyptian mysteries and, through this, of the stake of any religious initiation in general, including the Christian paradigm. The mystic identification with the God who dies and comes to life, specific to Christianity is essential for supporting the belief in the immortality of the soul. We have limited out paper to two main sources, Herodot and Mircea Eliade. This is so because Herodot was historically closer to the Egyptian mysteries, he traveled to Egypt while these initiations were still being performed and he wrote about what he had seen himself. And Mircea Eliade because he is ideationally closer to our mentality, and in what concerns the belief in the immortality of the soul with the ancient Egyptians he pinpointed, as usual, the essential.
