Summary/Abstract: According to the remarkable doyen of the history of medicine, Acad. Miladin Apostolov, the need for first aid for injuries, bites or pain led to the emergence of more experienced members of the early human society. Obstetrics and therapeutic activities have been carried out since the first people. Medicine contributed to life and health ever since. The first and the most ancient human presence in Europe to present date was discovered in the XXI century in Bulgaria: Homo erectus (Kozarnika Cave, Belogradchik Municipality), dating 1,4 to 1,6 million years ago, and the earliest life of Homo sapiens (Bacho Kiro Cave, Dryanovo Municipality), dating 45 to 47 thousand years ago. The prehistoric artefacts were researched anong other projects under the international project "The Balkans and the beginning of the European culture". Based on the available artefacts and research, we raise the scientific hypothesis that the earliest and most ancient medicine on the European continent originated during the Palaelolithic period in areas on the territory of contemporary Bulgaria, inhabited by the earliest humans. We discuss the evidence and follow the emergence and evolution of Prehistoric, Thracian and Bulgarian traditional medicine through the millennia.
