FINANCING MEDICAL SERVICES – PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE

Summary/Abstract: The organization of health care system is one of the most important issues in developed societies. The system undergoes continuous changes with the scope to improve its efficiency. The OECD countries are financing medical services primarily by a general public insurance and the private insurance is always linked to the public system. The private insurance is mostly a supplement to the public system and is designed for financing additional services inaccessible in the public system or for surcharges on the offered health care services. However, the development is restricted by different barriers, particularly by the wealth standard of the society.
