Summary/Abstract: The team of authors provides information on the initial stages of the project aimed atcreation of a diagnostic tool determining the level of reading, reading comprehension of primaryschool students with specific learning disabilities in conditions of inclusion. Created diagnostic batteryis intended for pedagogical-sychological counselling centres. It should supplement or replace thecurrently used standardized sets of texts with those that fully respect specifics of the Czech language and perceive the comprehension process in a complex way, i.e. as a process of comprehension of a coherent text at the cognitive, cultural-cognitive and socio-cultural level. The paper maps the process of creating the diagnostic tool as a whole, creating the source texts, formulating questionsto the texts and for a semi-structured interview verifying in detail the level of text comprehension. Itintroduces the methodology of assessing the students’ reading skills based on the findings of M. M. Clayand evaluates the course and results of pilot verification of the diagnostic tool usability in practice.
