Summary/Abstract: Having lost faith in the “textual world” – a faith characteristic of the post-structuralistparadigm – the new humanities reach for agency while simultaneously looking for bridgesacross the gap to science, inherited from the antipositivistic turn. The new humanitiesseek their place in teams and laboratories, but also in a political self-awareness that hasbeen taking over its own tools. The danger is that that new humanities might acceptbecoming an occupation for freeloaders or become absorbed in marketing. To teachcritical self-knowledge again, the new humanities must open the “black boxes” of theoryto practice and experimentation.
