Summary/Abstract: Balicki presents a critical take on the application of Bruno Latour’s action-network theoryto literary studies. He begins by discussing methodological challenges in the context ofexisting studies in the sociology of literature. He then applies Latour’s concept to literarystudies, demonstrating that one element in the network of literary studies – a networkthat also appears on the surface of the text – is its scenic character. This unique aspectof the world of literary scholarship allows Balicki to conclude that research on literatureought to be expanded to include the sociology of non-literature, which situates theresearcher beyond the game in which the symbolic capital in the field of literature isat stake.
