Summary/Abstract: In 1957 and 1958, the contemporary Bulgarian poet Zdravko Kisyov (1937 – 2015), permanently associated with Ruse, served as a border guard at the Eighth Border Outpost „Zalp“ at the „Makaza“ pass, located a few kilometers from the Bulgaria-Greece state border. In the second year of his service, he was transferred to the village of Chorbadzhiysko, where he ran the staff library. His first poetic appearances in the local press date from the same years. In the present text, based on a short-lived personal correspondence from twenty years ago, which is expressed in several exchanged letters, an attempt is made to fill in previously unknown moments of the poet's biography, as well as his understanding of poetry and the idea of the Rhodope Mountains – such as they remained in his memory even after half a century.
