Summary/Abstract: Instrument choice teaching is seen as one of the most fundamental steps in its performance. There are many factors that affect the instrument choice and one of them is the gender factor. Choosing an instrument according to gender characteristics, having gender characteristics socially attributed to instruments, and being feminine or masculine are among the factors affecting instrument selection. In this direction, while women prefer to use instruments associated with female identity, men prefer to use instruments associated with male identity. Associating instruments with femininity and masculinity can also affect instrument preference. Within the scope of the research, instrument-gender data were collected from 7 institutions that provide western music education and 10 institutions that provide Turkish music education in order to determine the instruments chosen by the students studying at undergraduate level education institutions in Turkey in terms of gender and to create an instrument-gender profile map. The data obtained were examined in terms of the ratio of the number of female and male students to each other and evaluated by comparison. In addition, simple frequency distributions (f), percentage values (%) and ratios to each other were calculated. According to the research results; In line with the data obtained from universities regarding the instrument-gender profile, instruments such as piano, violin, viola, cello, oboe, flute, classical kemençe, qanun, violine are mostly preferred by women; It has been determined that instruments such as contrabass, clarinet, bassoon, trombone, trumpet, tuba, guitar, baglama, clarinet, ney, kaval and tanbur are mostly preferred by men.
